Hi, from some website i understood that i could buy an audio interface and use it instead of a sound card, is that true ? or what is recommended, and whats more cheaper ?

a soundcard is an audio interface. i think they just call them audio interfaces because they come in all sorts of flavours - not just PCI cards these days. some are PCMCIA cards, some are external boxes to be connected via USB2 or firewire.

my delta 1010 is a PCI card with digital outs on the back, connected to a 19 inch breakout box which houses all the analogue inputs and outputs. i use this as my primary sound playback and recording device.

you can use any audio interface to replace your existing soundcard.

you should specify a budget before we recommend anything. audio interfaces vary in price quite alot.

you should also specify what you want to use it for since, if you are planning to record via analogue ins from several hardware synthesizers for example, getting an interface with ADAT or a tonne of digital ins/outs would kind of be a bit of a waste of money.

ya i see what your sayin, but im still having a hard time choosing an audio interface, coz i use a laptop and i heared they work like with laptops, i need it for music production, i might get expensive FireFox, coz i heared they work the best in laptops

for a laptop your best options will be firewire or pcmcia. i like the new emu 1616s if you have a windows laptop. the m-audio firewire series are nice, and if you want the mac daddy portable interface check out the motu traveller.
