you read the superlong title. and it's the truth. how can someone demand (not targeting ratboy here totally, it could be any star for that matter) that much money? just to act? most of it isn't even good acting. take arnold. a big monster of a man, i believe he won the mr. universe contest way back in the day when he wasn't some wash-up action 'star'. he was demanding 30 million dollars to act in any movie. i'd like some justification, please. there are millions starving in third world countries, hundreds of thousands of people homeless throughout north america, children in poverty, under-funded schools and god knows what else going on all around us, but we still have that much money to throw around? christ. america is still having a hard time forgiving debts from ethiopia. hey guys, you're never going to see it.
what about brain surgeons? what about firefighters? what about teachers? i understand that the entertainment industry has no correlation to the salaries of public service workers, but when you hold them up together, it really makes no sense. a police man works all hours of the day/night, deals with the lowest forms of humanity, puts his life at risk for our safety and the benefit of society. he gets maybe 50k a year. now, take our friend tom cruise. he looks pretty for the camera and gives a decent act. cut em a cheque for 25 million dollars, he deserves!
and why is everyone obsessed with what celebrities are watching, doing, eating, wearing, doing. all those awful shows, with all the 'latest hollywood gossip'. OoOOoOoooOOOoo!!! mabye i'll see kim bassenger ducking into a limousine! it's matt damon's birthday?? right off. :stongue:
so yeah, that's my .02 dollars. buy yourself something nice. late. |

| supply and demand.......i don't think tom cruise would be asking 20 million if he knew he could'nt get it. Everything is getting too high in terms of movie budgets and everything......who knows maybe a backlash will happen. |

Exxxxactly. The only reason he gets 20 million is because some schmuck in the movie industry is willing to PAY him 20 million, and the only reason they can do that is b/c movies make a lot of money...... harley if you have a real serious issue with this, i would stop going to the movies :p . That would be the best way to "do your part" to help the system collapse i guess..... :)

hahaha, {b.s.e}, what a hilarious (yet true) post!
You have my complete support!
The one thing I can't stand for the life of me, is the E! channel. "Latest Hollywood gossip". I bet these millionaire actors wouldn't even know how to put in a new light bulb in their houses, they got other people for that sort of thing.

Why do baseball players get $100 million plus contracts?...because there is a deamand for them...just as there are actors. Also, Cruise is not the only one that makes that much...Harrison Ford as well as Julia Roberts make if not as much, close to $20 million a picture.
Imo, they deserve it...they have gone up the ranks of actors...and paid their dues. They also have to sacrafice having a personal life as well so all the loot they make must ease that part of their life ;)
Peace,

alright. fair enough. so when you say, 'paid their dues, climbed the rank of actors,' you of course mean that they have all spent time on the stage, actually acting in something that isn't designed to generate money? let's put leonardo dicaprio in shakesp..oops. scratch that. they've already made that mistake. these 'actors' don't deserve this much money. what part of their lifestyle actually makes them deserve 25 million dollars? i think i'm just bitter (. they bitch and moan about privacy, but what can they expect when they are so out there in the public eye? if the only drawback is that they can't take a without the paparazzi popping up in your window, then sign me up as a hollywood star.
i;m not being fecesious here, man. i think it's disgusting that there is that much money floating around in these otherwise normal people's bank accounts. i can accept the fact that bill gates has more money than god. he created something monsterously helpful to our computer age. he basically forged today's technological market.
it's all because everyone (do you guys notice that actors aren't that big in other countries? just america..funny.) wants to live vicariously through these 'perfect people'. they have the perfect lives, money, beauty, popularity, fake . whatever.
"hey, mr. cruise, would you read my script?"
mr cruise replies, 'how much are you going to pay me?'
pay you to read a script? can i quote a trashy WWF slogan? SUCK>

you know i agree with you to a point...
but SOME actors deserve it (see: Robert DeNiro).... i'd pay that guy mucho to do a film - he is awesome. But Tom Cruise isn't even that great of an actor... I think Risky Business was his magnum opus... :p
Top Gun was a classic, as was Days of Thunder.... but what else? I think that car crash in Days of Thunder really did mess up his brain :p :D
Ditto on the sports players, i can't imagine that... especially those guys right out of college that get the 200-million dollar contracts... i can understand people like Kurt Warner, who was getting paid a schoolteachers' salary in NFL Europe and the CFL.... but some guys? pffft! ridiculous.
But, of course.... you realise we wouldn't be saying these things if we were them :D

I mostly agree with B.S.E., actors, none of them, should get the money the get...Its simply not worth it, they spend 2-5 months on a movie and get some odd ammount of millions of dollars? (American $$$:D). Who's to say that a janitor who cleans schools is doing LESS work than an actor who plays acts in some movie. The janitors job is even more useful in my opinion. But the media is slowly taking over...
The movie industry is like everything being broadcasted over the television (sports, news, talk shows...etc), the bigger the audience ->>> the more money, its that simple. |
