York Strike??? WTF?! (pg. 2)

Of course 2000 was the best academic year, York gave out good grades LIKE CANDY, so nobody would compain that they lost parts of the education they paid for. Grades were high because EXAMS and TERM PAPERS were cancelled to condense the end of the school year.
Some of us are not in a position to drop courses (like first year theatre majors).
Consider also international students who are planning to leave in April... their lives get considerably ed up.
Like I said... possibly two major strikes in 5 years by the same union? Time for me to start filling out applications for other schools. |

ye you could say that
but its really not that bad ... a month whont set you back for life
you can easily catch up and of course york would give us candy to foget about it
however
i dought it will be that long |

I doubt it will be long... strikes tend to generate bad press ;)
I guess if you are in BA programs, it doesn't affect you as much... but for those of us doing BFAs (theatre for example), this could seriously complicate our school year. This is because we not only have lectures, tutorials, and labs.... but also production schedules, auditions, etc, etc.... |

The TA's are fighting for many reasons, not only to increase their income. However there has been an increase in tuition overall in the past years especially for graduate students. So if the university is getting more money why not pay the TA's more money!?
2. They are also fighting to reduce graduate school tuition not only for themselves but for future graduate students.
3. For a simple office space where to meet with their students who have questions about the material. The university does not even provide for them their own room, or they share rooms with several TA's often serving more than 100 students. Having to meet at Timmies or the doghnut shop to discuss school material is unacceptable.
So they are not just fighting for themselves but for future graduates. This is the information ive been given by a prof in one of my lectures. So im not sure if its baised or not.
However i hope there is NO strike b/c i really dont want school to cut into my Holidays!! |

oh yes it will. buses won't be let on campus. i remember having to trek through snow and slush a few years ago. and all the while some york TA trying to talk my ear off. i'm not a york student you dumass!!!!!!!! |
