For anyone interested in honest discussion about drug use. Oh yeah, and watching some clips from movies that show people rolling...
"Ecstasy Onscreen: MDMA Use in Movies"
Film Festival/Discussion panel
the Westin Long Beach
333 E. Ocean Blvd.
Long Beach, CA 90802
(Barcelona/Casablanca room)
Thursday, November 10th at 9pm
only $5 to attend!
This is part of the larger International Drug Policy Reform Conference, and you can find details about that at www.drugpolicy.org/conference. I will be showing clips from popular movies (including Go, Human Traffic, Garden State and others) all the way down to independently shot documentaries in clubs and unreleased indie films. A couple of the filmmakers will be there to speak, as well as the head of LA's Dance Safe chapter and a local club promoter.
Please come out if you have opinions about how your scene (and its main drug) is portrayed in film, both past and present. And if you like fun. :)
PS -- at 8:30 we are screening a documentary called The Last Two Seconds about Dr. Alexander Shulgin and his wife Ann. Come early if you can!

Do we need to RSVP or sign up for the conference? Or can we just show up for this seminar only?
Thanks! |

| If you want a good example of what you should show, watch White Chicks....has one of the most wrong, yet hilarious, MDMA scenes ever. |

Actually, it's funny you mention that, I'm going to show that clip from White Chicks...
And no, you don't need to sign up for the conference (in fact you shouldn't since it costs $150 - and that's for a student), you can just show up with $5. Now, that will only get you entry to "Ecstasy Onscreen" film festival/panel, starting around 8:30, but it's really that easy.
If you want to email me your name so I can get a general idea of who's coming, that would be nice, but it's not necessary. :) |

| my favorite ecstacy scene in a movie is that opening nightclub sequence in bad boys 2. :eyes: |

| Recommend checking this out, particularly the bit about Alexander Shulgin. |

I know, I wanted to use the scene from Bad Boys II also, but I had to be really choosy because I'm so limited on time.
I should just put the list of all the movies I'm *not* gonna show, in case anyone wants to look them up on their own. |

Sorry this is so late (was in Vegas for the weekend)...
Had a good time there! I enjoyed the movie clips and the presentation. I thought the 8:30 documentary was good as well!
Thanks for posting this up and letting us join you. The conference seemed very cool, maybe should attend next year.
(Traffic was fine: I took surface streets to the 105/405 area, and it only took me 30 min to get down there...) |
