Definitely go multiband, as in the Waves LinMB, for instance. Following this with an additional, 'tightening' or 'sweetening' compressor often isn't a bad idea either. Everyone has different tastes and approaches of course, but the Waves LinMB and Waves RComp are good places to start imo.
Remember that a compressor isn't a last resort to make a mix brighter or more vibrant, though. Mastering can't fix a mix, but can only add to it. If you want a different sound, go back to your mix. :) |
