Being passionate about music is a HUGE plus if you're a producer.
So try and listen to almost everything and eventually you'll find something interesting ot experiment with.

nine inch nails?
Rainborn
Definitely cool.
System Of A Down as well, been a fan of their songs for a long time. They're a good alternative band.
Aerials is a woopass song as well as Chop Suey, but they have many more cool songs.

I love this:

Whirlpool - Under The Sun

It's a great track and there's a brief guitar riff ever so often repeated in the song that sounds kinda rock-ish....but it's a far cry from what you meant.

good alternative band producing is a hard thing to find their songs still are sooo underground or almost even isn't there.
