| i'm recording a midi part in albino...after i have the midi line, i make another track to record all the automations...heres the deal: if i record the automations from my controller, it will record the data in the track, but if i hit record, and do the automations with my mouse it won't? any ideas? thanks |

Correct.
When you turn a knob on a synth, you are interfacing directly with that synth and bypassing the MIDI control in Cubase - thus, it's not going to "see" anything you're doing.
Why would you want to use the mouse when you have a MIDI controller? If your controller isn't precise enough then just draw the automation by hand. |

that brings up a whole new problem lol...i'm using a radium 61...and for the life of me can't figure out how to program the knobs and sliders with the vst's (the generic remote is really confusing) i'm all about the music side of production...i need to be in a group like blank & jones where u got some one all about the music side, and then the other guy with all the technical know how :D
anyways, if you know of a resource or could easily explain how to control the knobs that would be cool...or if u could explain how to use record the data with the mouse...thanks |

It's much easier to assign the knobs to VST parameters than to internal controls in Cubase. Most VSTs have a MIDI learn, so it really takes no effort.
Also it just hit me that I might be wrong about the mouse thing. I didn't even think of this since I *never* use it, but if you hit the "W" (write automation) button, and then record the mouse clicks, it might catch. |

i wish all of them had midi learn (wouldn't that make more sense after all) when u use midi learn in a vst, how do u save it so its like that in the future...
is their an easy (easier) way to assign knobs to vst's without generic remote?
to just came to mind myself actually to try the write automation...i'll give that a shot |

| just tried "W" or write, with no luck...even though i should eventually learn how to do things properly with a midi controller (much easier to of course) its gotta be possible to easily do things with a mouse too. |

Actually I tried it myself and it worked. Hit the W, start recording and jiggle one of the knobs around. Just understand that it won't get recorded as MIDI data, it will get recorded as sysex (automation track).
As for synths without MIDI learn, you just have to either assign the right CCs to the mod matrix according to what your keyboard puts out, or re-assign your keyboard's CCs if the synth doesn't have a simple MIDI config. |

The good news is yes you can record automation with cubase in 'real time' with your mouse.
If you are want to assign the knobs on the Vst - just simply click both the 'W' and 'R' on the Vst - play you track, click the knob and move the mouse accordingly.
Press stop.
Its that easy.
The thing is - your automation you just recorded will be at the bottom of the sequencer in a new VST Automation folder.
You then simply click where it says 'volume'or whatever and the knob that you just assigned should be showing at the top with a * at the side.
Click that and hey presto! Your automation is now there!
Ive tried to keep it simple but if you have any problems just PM me - hope this helps!
