Nord Modular G2 (*what synth to buy* -thread)

I just downloaded the Nord Modular G2 editor demo and I'm quite liking the sound and all the possibilities this synth offers. However I feel that the polyphony and multitimbrality is limited for my uses.
If I'd buy a Nord Modular G2 engine (rack) and the expansion card for it, the polyphony is doubled (up to 32 voices), but what about multitimbrality(sp?), will that also expand from 4 parts to 8 parts??
Basically I need a main synth that is at least 4 part multitimbral, but I'd like 8 parts or more. Blowing a thousand bucks on the Nord seems too much if it can only play 4 sounds at once...
I love the Access Virus and have been thinking about getting a Virus Classic, since I can't afford the C or TI. I was always set on getting a Virus, but I want to know all my options before I decide what to buy. Another option which I like is the Novation KS Rack, but unfortunately only 8 voice poly... but they're so cheap... maybe get that and something else as well (Alesis Ion?)?? :D
But what do you say?
Virus Classic vs. Nord Modular G2 vs. Novation KS rack + another synth?? I'm aiming for 1K $US. What would you choose? |
