Pretty good day for libs. NJ and Virginia government seat remained Democratic, Aaaarnold's propositions - every ing one of them went up in flames, Maine kept its gay rights initiative, a St. Paul mayor who happened to be a Democrat but supported Bush received a boot in the ass by an actual Democrat with a 69% to 31% margin:

But the big enchilada to me is this little gem:

STAFF REPORTS
Dover CARES candidates swept eight seats available on the Dover Area School Board in tonight's election, according to unofficial vote totals from the York County elections office.
Sixteen candidates sought the eight seats and were split into two camps, based largely on the issue of intelligent design.
Dover CARES candidates think that if intelligent design is referenced, it should be in an elective course, such as comparative religion.
The incumbent school board members who were ousted in Tuesday's election favor mentioning intelligent design in biology classes.

Absolutely perfect night for the people in Dover, PA. That is the way to send a clear message to the s who want to run your student's education to the ground. If only 2008 was closer here in Kansas we'd be able to do the same. This Dover message should be a shot across the bow to my Kansas BOE, but the simple fact is they just don't ing care. Scary and insane fundie nutbags, all 6 of 'em.
Speaking of which, that is a mark against us last night - the Kansas BOE ing with the science standards, Texas votes in a gay marriage ban (incredibly shocking, I know), and Mayor Bloomberg from NY is re-elected (which I kinda like the guy, so no biggie). |

Didn't the morons who drafted that bill word it so vaguely that it bans heterosexual marriage as well?
I believe the passage in question is that the state or political subdivision of the state "may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
A legal status identical to marriage is of course ... marriage.

Anyway, Kilgore lost VA the minute he invoked Hitler in his campaign ads. Oh that and Bush's endorsement of him when he visited VA was spectacular:
You're kidding me right? That's the BEST Bush could come up with?? |

| As long as it says "gay," "marriage," and "ban," you can really word it however you want and texas will still vote yes on it. I'm actually going to propose a bill next week: "Dogs can vote GAY MARRIAGE BAN." I think it will be a land-slide. |

The intelligent re-design in the middle of Pennsylbama was pretty satisfying.
It was a great win for libs and members of the Reality Based Community across the country in addition to the Colorado special election the other week, but the real prize is Congress in 2006 and everyone knows that.
In Texas Travis County (Austin), where I am from, was the only county to vote against the ban on marriage.

Election Wins Show Democratic Weakness, White House Says
Democrats will be sitting in the governor's office in Virginia and New Jersey next year, but as the White House sees it, Tuesday's elections exposed Democratic flaws, not Republican ones.
President George W. Bush's spokesman, Scott McClellan, said they showed the Democrats are "out of touch" with voters because Virginia's new governor ran as a conservative.
Democratic Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine soundly defeated Republican Jerry Kilgore in a GOP-leaning state, despite a last-minute campaign appearance for Kilgore by Bush.
....
But McClellan said overall, the races were decided on local and state issues and were not a referendum on Bush. He noted both states elected Democratic governors in 2001, and that the next year, Republicans won big in congressional voting.

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Losing is Winning...:disbelief
Here's hoping that Bush campaigns for more Republicans next year:
