tuning a room

Holas,

My friend is moving to Japan, and has loaned me his Tannoy PS 110B active subwoofer to complement my Mackie HR824's in my newly-setup studio. I have been working on the studio for a while now, and it sounds good to my ears, but I'm curious to see how accurate it really is.

I have a couple of good condenser mics and a stand - I'm looking for software to generate sine sweeps and help me analyse what's really going on in the room. I'm using a PC with Windows XP.

Any recommendations on software to help with this process?

cooledit and any other decent audio app can generate a sine. And for checking the rooms acoustics I'd recommend to use your ears. Listen on different places in the room and try to recognise the problem when you hear one. Is it phase cancellation, or do you have standing waves? Look on the internet for the 'hear no evil' pdf file for some simple solutions if you're out of ideas.
