Another one in the same boat.
I did very well in high school CS, and consquently was pressured by teachers and family to get a CS degree. Coming from a broke family, a 60k+ salary sounded quite alright for me, so I went through with it. Fast forward 3 years, and I never want to see another line of programming code again. I would much rather be learning something useful, something that I can discuss with people, after all when am I ever going to be able to use knowledge of multithreading and concurrency outside of work? Never. Luckily for me I was able to get into a minor in Cognitive Science, which I find very interesting. When all is said and done, I have other interests that I want to make a career out of, but I will always have this degree as insurance.
My suggestion is: Forget about masters or doctoral studies. Get your bachelor's degree in something practical. It will secure you with a high chance of a well paying job at any stage in you life. Not only that, but it will let you accumulate enough coin to invest in what REALLY interests you. Choose elective courses that appeal to you, not the ones for easy credit.
That is my plan, and IMO is a pretty good compromise between security and fun. |

the reason why i havent applied to get into c/u us because i dont know what i wanna do.. im very good at painting.. very good at designing clothes.. and interior design.. i have to choose only one of those to master it.. i rather loose some years figuring out what i wanna do than loose money and regret taking courses i might not enjoy.. |

| I agree that it would be a complete waste of money to just keep switching. Just finish something now and go from there. Just cause you finish it in school now doenst mean you are stuck with doing that the rest of your life. Just get something done! |

Very good advice IMO.
Do what makes you feel happy and contented with life/school.
If truly not feeling it, and have an idea of something you WOULD enjoy, change your path if you can. That's just my take.
I hope you sucessfully end up taking a program that you actually enjoy and are good at Cale, and that will satisfy you later on in life.
I wish you much success buddy, these are most definately NOT easy decessions to come to and make, nor to follow through on. Stay strong in the face of your parents - do what you want to do for YOU - not for them.

All that said, I also agree with the reasoning and sound logic behind Aaron and RJ's posts. Look at it for yourself, and see if you realistically can push yourself and make yourself get through it. If yes, then I'd reflect stronly on the merits of following their words of wisdom. |

after university all your employer really wants to know is that you got through university. you have the discipline and perseverance to make it through your prgram. thats really what the eng, business, law, med programs are all about. the real knowledge will come from work experience, either from co-op, internship and/or during the first few years after graduating.
your life in university is some of the best times you're gonna have, but you still gotta work through it. so get something that you enjoy but still practical and challenging. |

Totally.
I'm in Business Marketing too Vertigo, and believe me I know exactly how you feel because the last 2 weeks I've really been questioning my decision to go into marketing. To be honest, almost *everyday* since I've been in this program I've wondered "what the am I doing here!?", but after giving it some thought I've realized that it's mostly me, and my lack of motivation. Not the program. After looking at it objectively, I realized that marketing has a lot of interesting things to effer, and maybe, just maybe, if I just gave it a chance and forced myself to WANT to learn it, then hey, maybe I'd even develop an interest in it.
And believe me it really helped. Marketing is actually really interesting if you take the right approach towards it, and realize that what you're learning isn't necessarily to be a "marketer", but to overall be a success in life.
As much as it is a pain in the ass, there are a few courses here and there that really interest me (interational marketing and consumer behaviour, for instance). And I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find something you'll like too. In the end though, having a business degree, especially in marketing, will open up a lot of doors in the future for you, and the general knowledge you'll take away with you will go a long way. |

We also have paradmedics. I could see you as a nurse......you would NEVER have to worry about a job and having cute girls around. lol.

When I was doing engineering we had our eng materials lecture right after the nursing students... That was pretty rad, but I've never seen a more pathetic bunch of losers (the other engineering students) gawking and drooling at the hotass nursing chicks coming out of that lecture hall. |

Paramedic stuff u say....ummmm or journalism. Well, these are two very different disciplines
I dono much about journalism, but I know a bit about paramedic stuff, as that used to be one of my options. Its extremely rewarding and all but its not glamorous as they show it on TV. |

I don't get my interest in paramedic stuff from TV, I'll tell ya that much, heh.
I did a ride-a-long a few years back, some half-decent car accident (I mean that in a bad way) and a bunch of blood. It really gets the adrenalin going when the call comes through. Nutso |
