so i was researching the whole premise behind Hostel for the past 3 hours. Hostel is a movie based on "true events." those of you that have seen the trailer know that the "based on true events" is what gets everyone excited.

There is a place, where all your darkest, sickest fantasies are possible. Where you can experience anything you desire.

Where you can torture, punish or kill for a price.

The writer/director said his friend sent him an email about a website (which was taken down) which organized events where if u had the $$$, u could have be seated to a show of torture and murder.

of course, i think it'd be pretty impossible to find a website like this on google, so i didn't even try (that hard)

It seems that the events make A TON OF MONEY from just a handful of an audience. many of these events take place in southeast asia, although rings have been found in areas like FRANCE. You pay a LOAD of money to see a guy/girl/whatever get completely ed up, or, tada, watch someone YOU WANT to get completely ed up.

They said "handful of people", it can be as low as even 1 person, or up to usally 5 people. I was thinking why not have an audience of 100 sickos paying $100 each? it seems that the events appeal to REALLY RICH people to have a smaller audience (keep on the downlow). BIG MONEY means that the really poor local authorities can't even afford the "games" that lead to the whereabouts of the show. by the games, i mean you talk to person after person, paying money until u reach a key person telling u the GOOD .

i don't exactly know how u'd get someone YOU'D WANT to have go through this though. Some of the websites i went through suggest a link to human trafficking, much of which is located throughout asia. With a little social engineering and telemarketing skills, i guess u could get a guy to visit a country, monitor where he sleeps and then whack him. i dunno.

anyways, maybe u want to discuss the film. what do u think about society's increasing fascination with the mixture of violence and pornography?

You have entirely too much free time on your hands... and not enough brain power to figure out anything better to do with it.

I read the title and thought this was going to be another thread satirizing the insularism, ignorance, narrowmindedness and xenophobia that people so often attribute to Americans. But instead I found a post demonstrating that very attitude. Is this some kind of Baudrillardian parody, some kind of overstated simulacrum of satire? Or a living case-in-point demonstration of the stereotypical american? The correct answer is: who gives a flying .
