spinning actual tracks? isn't whatever he's burning on CD the same thing that he is playing w/ ableton?

i think clovis is stepping backwards. the creativity level w/ ableton is much higher than anything he could do on CDJ's. however if he plans on doin both i could understand.

as far as marketabliity, someone who is doing insane things w/ a new program is much more marketable than someone who is like everyone else

Said that wrong...I meant he probably enjoys the physical act of spinning as opposed to the laptop djing.

Try playing in a local club out of the blue with a laptop.

Also...good laptop + controller = more than CDJs

out of the blue?

dude i'm confused, you go to a club promter and you say:

clovis: i'm available xx/xx/xxxx date, does that work for you?
promoter: ok that works, you're schd for 10... i loved your demo, btw what medium do you use?
clovis: ableton
promoter: sorry, we don't book ableton DJ's here?

Its not that they wont book you, they just have less of a chance of doing so if you are using a laptop...since its still considered cheating by alot of people (lord knows why...)

And I seriously doubt anyone goes by demo's anymore since they are so frequently edited, chopped up and heavily worked on post mix that they are hardly an indication of how good the DJ is...sad but true.
