hey guys whats up

i have a serious problem here, and its just pissin me off to the max, its regarding Reason

anytime i play a song now, it just freezes (too much cpu usage) and thers no other programs running, im sure all reason users here once witnessed this sometime in their lives...

INTEL PENTIUM 4 2.6 GHZ 800MHZ CPU+FAN
ASUS P4S800 MOTHERBOARD (BUILT-IN SOUND CARD)
512 MB DDR PC3200 / 400 MHZ
another 512 MB OCZ Ram
HITACHI 80 GB HDD 7200 RPM

theres my computer, now i think the problem is that it might be the built-in soundcard which can't carry so many sounds at once... is that possible? because again, this computer is good enough for any program i think... and reason isnt that big, doesnt even use vsts

so someone please help me, let me know any kind of problems u think i might have so i can text it all...

thanks :)

well sunny... no matter how good u think your computer is, itll still run into problems once in a while

for instance: my computer, dual 2.7ghz g5 with 2gb ram and logic pro 7, and yes i still sometimes get audio errors!

why, simply because sometimes no machine can process the ammount of data and ram that us producers use... and think of this, every single FX channel you open takes up more ram and more space...

as for the soundcard, yes, soundcards do make a huge difference... you can get one thats probally 100x better than your stock one for around only 150-200$, even cheaper if you go to ebay...

but as for now, the advice i give you is... ALWAYS EXPORT...

think of this, you have a crash with 4 FX channels on it... you're generally not going to be needing to automate that crash with the current FX so what u should do, is simply bounce the crash, then delete the FX channels and open it up in a sampler... WALLAH! less ram usage....

hope this could help you out a little bit buddy!

northern comfort represent!

Wow, I wonder how many times people need to say "don't use built-in soundcards" on this forum before everybody takes the hint...

I think I need to add a "CPU" section to the FAQ!

Ha ha. Personally I'd rather it be just the FAQ than the same 20 questions over and over again!

OCZ is a brand, not a type of memory. :wtf:

If the CPU usage is unnaturally high (jitters and sample underruns with 2 subtractors running :p ) then it might be a hardware conflict. I just had a similar problem and I solved it 2 days ago (you can search for the thread on this forum). Turns out that my Ethernet network adapter was messing with my soundcard and it would go crazy on the CPU. I had to disable it for the sound to work (Now I have an external wireless card instead).

Try takin out all PCI cards other than your soundcard, and disable every built-in items on your mainboard (network adapters, Firewire, internal audio (unless that's what you're using :p ). See if that helps. If not, try reinstalling windows. If that doesn't help... then you're in deep ... :( (I know your pain, it took me 4 months to figure out the cause of my problem!).

It's because we have to pay to get your tunes now.

I think if just put them on tranceaddict like the old days, then your problem will be solved.

Hehe, sorry mate. No idea! Hope you sort it though.

THE Sunquest uses an on board sound card?!?!

GUARENTEED that's your problem...

Dood... do yourself a favour and buy a legit production sound card. Forget Audigy... they're made for gaming. If you're short on cash, M-Audio makes a great series raging from $200+ (Audiophile or Delta series). If you can spare the cash, maybe get into an EMU card. You'll no longer be using emulated ASIO drivers and would be processing audio data properly.

I bet your computer would run like a dream.
