The Athiesm Illness

You know what really grinds my gears?

I was watching Dateline with my roomate. We were just shooting the laughing at the stupidity of these people on the show. The team that runs Dateline (or however you'd like to explain it) setup a "catch" for online sexual predators. The Dateline group was claiming they were a 13 year old teenager on some AOL chat room, and they were setting up meetings with other men on the internet. Well, blah, blah, blah, the story continues. Regardless, they run into a rabbi who was going to meet the "kid" for sex.

The host of the show preceeds to say narrating the situation: "That's right, the man who was going to engage in sexual activities, is a man of god"!

Oh gee, because us kids who don't believe in God are horrible people! Good golly, we have no morals. I was told by a friend of mine who is very conservative, and very religious (maybe he's my arch nemesis, exact opposite of me) that I have more morals than almost all of his friends who call themselves intense followers of the Christian faith (I'm not limiting it to Christians either, that word has been poisioned enough, I'm applying this to all religious people in general).

Why must so many assumptions be made about non religious people? Sure, assumptions are made about those who are religious too, but their directed the complete opposite way.

In my Introduction to College Writing course somehow the topic of Athiesm came up for a brief 30 seconds (because that's not something we need to talk about for very long. only religious beliefs are those that matter). Topics of music, hobbies etc were being shared while this topic was mentioned. This girl said: "OMG! I wonder what kind of music Athiests listen to! Probably crazy death metal music."

The only example that I really want put up for debate is the first one regarding Dateline, simply because that's a more nationwide topic. It's a lot more assumped and it can be taken more factual. Regardless, why must poor views like these be assumed?

Ohman, that guy who went in the house nekkid, then came back the next day, man that was class. He was all like "well that's why i'm talking to a therapist" or something. Bawahahahah.

wow i can't believe she knows what death metal is...prolly listened to it herself during her angst years.

anyways, the assumption is that a mad of God would be more moral and more civil than your typical citizen. Lately, this confidence has been shaken, especially because of the Church's scandlas with choir boys and all. While, I don't think this assumption is correct, I do think that a Rabbi or a Priest rapist or sex offender is worse on a level than a regular citizen being one.

Why would a talk about atheism last any longer than 30 seconds?

Cathy the Atheist: I don't believe in God.

HAHA, I actually saw that too. I was having sex with my GF and I couldn't really concentrate, LOL :) Then she said "fine you can watch about rapists, I'll go read a book." :stongue:

Jesus Christ, even the rabbis are getting it more often than I am. What's the point of being an atheist and going to hell if you can't even have frequent bouts of hot, uninhabited sexual intercourse along the way? :(
Yoepus
you all have a sick, sick vile disease.

go see an anesthesiologist.

or burn in hell:p

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with how one beliefs unless that belief is listed in the DSM. So why do you care?

It's getting so bad nowadays that you have to pick up a 14 year old, murder her parents, and then kidnap her to get any action :(

For you non-US people ... she sure picked a winner

I think that you're putting more into the statement than what was necessarily there: It could easily have meant that as a man of God (i.e. a person in a trusted position/a position where you're supposed to be a figure of authority for children), it is expected of you to be impeccable in these matters.
