| quote: | | A USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll last weekend found that 74% of Americans believe U.S. soldiers or other government officers have committed torture in Iraq or elsewhere. The poll also found that 38% would be willing to have U.S. officials torture terrorism suspects who may know about future attacks while 56% opposed such torture in those circumstances. |

Probably has a lot to do with how the question was framed. i.e.:
Q: Do you support torture?
A: Me? HELL NO! That's like mean and stuff! Gosh!
Q: If you had an enemy combatant in custody and the only way to save 50,000 innocent lives from certain death at the hands of said enemy was to subject him to torture/bodily harm, would you do it?
A: Me? How could I possibly live with 50,000 deaths on my shoulders? Burn in hell you raghead! Jihad Jihad! Durka durka! |

this souldn't suprise anyone. Furthermore, there are alot of countries were torture would be at a higher approval ratings. regardless, we MUST impeach President Bush, NOW. the world cannot wait while this is ruining it.

very true. if you ask a person if they would torture anyone for no reason obviously they would say no. However, if it leads to saving lives or some valuable information, i think the chances are that a whole heap of people would support it. |

| Yes, well the torture they commit is not so bad. I mean if American guards tortured thier captives like cutting them a thousand times and letting them bleed; that is bad. Any method of chinese torture would be horrible and unacceptible. I mean sleep deprivation doesn't sound so bad |

Especially when you think about that satisfying 72 hour slumber that comes after the sleep deprivation. Mmmmmm....sweet, glorious sleep. |
