Anyone can have an opinion. That's not hard. No one is impressed that you can do that. But to get your opinion noticed, to make it more attractive to others, to make it sound, concrete and unignorable, is to justify the logic and the understanding of your opinion through supporting evidence, empirical research, and keen observation. That's what turns it into a quality meme. That's how your opinion becomes an elite member of human brainfarts. And that's how your opinion can be right. |
that was off topic but well wrote...

PVD should have released it in oz first then. 50% was a pass grade in all my uni classes |

60% is a C at my level. What course has 60% as an F? Besides, that's a daft analogy. Should I choose to extend it, the guy has kicked out A* stuff before, and suddenly he's dropped all those grades. What would a teacher say to that? |
60% is an F according to our beloved American educational system.
Now, if you were a teacher I would definitely enroll in all of your classes. But that isn't the case. In my analogy, a teacher would be surprised of course. He had expectations from that guy.
Now, modifying the analogy with clear intention of raping it, suppose PVD is the teacher and you are one of his many students this year. Prior students say he is one of the best professors in the school. He's gotten tons of awards over the years. He is currently regarded as one of the best professors after dethroning a professor that was supposed to give lectures for four hours straight but interrupted them because he didn't know how to present his material in a coherent way. One day you're given the job of interviewing your professor for the school newspaper. But before that you make it known to the school that you give a 6/10 to one of his famous articles entitled The Politics of Dancing, volume 2. The students that work for your professor know about your rating of the article and decide to decline the interview you were so eager to publicize. Not only that, they also decide to piss on your favorite Tottenham jersey that you accidently left in the locker room. But who decided all this? Dr. Van Dyk or the students working for him? You have no way of knowing that day so you go home thinking about the answer with your urinated jersey in one hand.
About the interview, I don't know what exactly happened to make Paul Van Dyk decline the interview. I would guess the questions never reached Paul Van Dyk because of his webteam. I would say he hasn't even seen your review. But that's just me putting all the blame on a crew whose only purpose is to kiss PVD's ass and keep all the "negative influences" away. |

Maybe Paul did read it, http://www.residentadvisor.net/review_view.asp?id= 3371
In it he says: the thing that "Turns you off: People commenting on us and what we do. We give so much." and have read the questions from tc and it looks to be a decent interview for once....... |

lol. no, its a review. Complaining about the bassline in full on is like saying "this trance track has supersaws... it sucks" Not to mention he uses the word "farty noise" The guy even admits he doesnt like that genre, so why ing review it? Some killer tracks on that album. |

| This doesn't surprise me. PVD and others at his level didn't get to where they are by associating themselves w/ (debatable) negative reviews. I feel for you S-J, but it's not surprising, and a logical course of action for PVD and/or his team. |

poor choice by TC to have him review it. If they want to use PVD to draw people to their website, then at least use someone who is going to look favorably at the CD. I blame TC, not the reviewer. He had his opinions and made them know. TC made the mistake by putting him on the review.
Bottom line, thats the music biz. Welcome to it TC! |

Nothing wrong with some "fart noises" but when a track consists only of that same sound I can't help but bang my head against the wall. The basslines are an integral part of a song - if they suck, they pull the track down.
I like psy. Now, the reason I reviewed this was that it is marketed as "psytrance" which it clearly is not - trust me, I'm not making the mistake again.
And what are these "Killer tracks"? As I said in the review you might like it if you haven't heard the genre before and/or gotten spammed with it the latest two years. |

To be honest, there are only so many ways of saying "this track is unoriginal and boring". I was going to compromise more, but I genuinely didn't enjoy a lot of it, and the review reflects my feelings of frustration at witnessing a potentially great mix sell itself short. |
that's what i'm trying to get at. maybe his management team figured you might ask him some negative or provocative questions... they couldn't say for sure so they're just playing it safe. |

Yes it is psytrance. The genre encompasses all sorts of styles from dark and experimental to light and fluffy. This album is definately the latter.

-- Misted Muppet - Snarling Sraw
The theming and synth programming in this is ing excellent. Dark as full on really. The fairy tale style melodies at the start.. wikked?! Christ the misted mupped lead alone is unique and worth a mention.
-- Oforia - Northern Lights
Dude, classic track! Dont really know how you can say this track has the same bassline as the other ones. Its got more of a progressive feel than full on really and the bassline is really subdued. If you want to hear full-on cheese, try the GMS rmx of it.
-- Rinkadink vs DJ Spencer - Spektral Monkey (Broken Toy Remix)
Again, wicked synth programming in this track. Its just twisted stuff, I really liked it. Again... Rinkadink + Broken Toy = tough south african basslines. I cant believe you didnt find atleast this bass differnt from the others.
The Dynamo track is pretty good too and Mr Peciliar produces some of the most original full on I've heard. This track isnt his best, but he has a very original style.
I just felt like you dissed the entire album on the basis of your feeling towards full on. There were so many other aspects of the tracks you could have focused on and you just kept coming back to... "boring bassline" Seriously, if your that bored with an album, pick another one that actually inspires you. Its not like there arnt about a hundred other releases you could have chosen and actually produced an inspired review on something you might have recommended.
Dont get me wrong, there's places for critical reviews. I liked your IM and Shpongle ones and they were pretty much on the money, but this one just didnt seem to have much basis for reference. Sorry! :D |
