Oh they showed the F40 owning an F1 on Top Gear in an episode 2 seasons ago :happy2: and good ol' Clarkson proclaimed the F40 as the best supercar ever. Maybe it was a TV stunt so Clarkson could say that and have it shown, but I will take it as it is because I want to believe :D I'm sure Bobby will agree, and I as well. No show, no gimmicks, all go. Well I saw that top gear, and they didn't show it 'running circles around the mclrn', but yes I know what you mean. The thing is, the Mcl was not a race car. It was truly a super car designed for the road. Gordan Murry(creator) always stated that, and that is where people get confused.
The Porsche 911 GT1 and the Mercedes CLK GTR, which were both created to battle the Mcl F1 on the track, blew it away. Why? They were races cars which were then ported to road cars so they would be legally allowed to race. Not the other way around. The Mcl F1 on the other hand, was never designed like that. Its aero package, gear box, chassis and over all performance/usability was designed for the road. Hence the fact that it actually as room for luggage, lol.
The fact is, on a track, the Mcl F1 could only spank cars on the straights, with it's huge power/weight ratio. That 400+ lbs of torque, was just too much for the corners. The other cars had much more consistent power bands.
The F40 is truly the greatest super car ever. No windows, no radio, nothing. Just engine, turbos, super light body, and mind blistering acceleration. The F50 could take the F40 on the track due to the heavy aero work Ferrari did on it.
Going fast in a straight line is great, but going fast around the corners, is what a super car should be about. |

it actually was a half decent list! they made plenty of fag jokes about the miata but recognized it for what it is.
they didnt show enough of the fast cars ripping it though, so that was a disappointment. a lot of the f1 footage was ripped off from top gears(tiffs) test of it from years ago. the video i still watch all the time. I <3 the f1. |
I watched this, and I cannot believe the Mercedes 300 SL was not on that list. Gull wing doors, one of the most beautiful cars every made! Technologically advanced for the time too.

Oops I ed up. It wasn't a show about the "FASTEST" but the top ten ULTIMATE sports cars (based on subjective reasons from a panel of journalists/collectors/etc.) I thought it was fastest initially because I was in a hurry but with Countach as #10 and the original James Bond Aston Martin also in the list, I realized that a major piece in the assessment was what the car did for the automotive genre; it's impact on the public psyche. In other words, a load of . Miata at #2? Are you out of your ing mind? No self-respecting list would put that chick car that high! :whip: :whip: :whip:
...I will have to watch it now...btw that SUCKS that you don't have a VCR, Cale :( We'll have to find a way to watch this together...holding hands and stuff like you do in your Lil' Jon videos.

Anybody can make a fast car. It takes a lot to make a car that impacts the automotive genre. Miata not only did that, but totally belongs to that list.

I have. No matter what Mazdaspeed does, it LOOKS too girly. My top priority is performance, but I will not sacrifice looks. I'm not one to add skirt packages and do all that superficial stuff, but the original look has to be pretty damn aggressive, which is why I'll never buy a Mini Cooper or a Golf R34, or especially a Miata.
The only reason the Miata was so successful was because it was CHEAP. Every one could access a nice-handling car, which changed the way the average person thought about sports cars. I respect that but not at the same level as the other cars on the list...it's totally out of place for me. |

With priorities like that, I'm kinda curious as to what you're driving now. I dunno, I'm pretty secure in my sexuality, so I won't feel any gayer when I'm talking corners in a mini cooper or a miata at twice the speed of a hick in a mustang.
And you always have turbos as an option to add.
I'd get a sick satisfaction of driving a Miata with a turbo. |
