| Turkey not in the near future. Romania, definatly not in the near future. You know that Ukraine is trying to enter the union too? Like the EU needs any more disasters. |

I have seen commenators in Europe make the statement that by letting in Turkey it will show the Muslim world that the West isn't anti Islam. Makes me wonder what drives EU policy and where does it end with the nations. Does anyone honestly believe that every nations voice can be heard among so many countries. Croatia, Turkey, Serbia and Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Ukraine, Georgia, are all on the docket. If I was Norway, Iceland and Switzerland(who will never join) I would stay far away. All of those nations will want their piece of the pie, rightfully so, while other current members will have to start footing more in the budget, like Spain, Ireland, traditional benefactors.
Was watching Euronews and they had a poll where 70% of respondents would welcome Turkey, Croatia and Ukraine I believe, did I miss something, thought Europeans were weary of enlargement. Turkey would be the second largest nation in the EU via population behind Germany, would make things rather interesting from a policy standpoint for Europe. |

Lepanto Ukraine is way away. The 2 that are closest are Romania and Turkey both to may even be voted on by early next year.
I have to belive that 70% is somewhat wrong completley. Im Swiss not in the EU but have an Italian passport(dual citizenship) and my Italian friends say no to Turkey by far. We have seen how the Muslim culture has come into to these countries and destroy them where they dont obey the rules and kill or harm or threaten anyone that doesnt agree or pokes fun at the religion. Putting the Turks in the EU would be horrible ugh I gotta stop |

i disagree about letting enter romania ....and turkey into EU
romania maybe in 20 yrs when they will have a better economy and will be able to have competition and and for now it's too early ....same than bulgaria
anyways i thought that now EU is composed of 25 members .....and i dunno i don't see why people of EU didn't make a referendum to ask us if yeah we wanted them ...there are so many differences between the western countries and the eastern ones i don't think they were all ready to be integrated ...we should have waited few more years but i was agree to have them getting a part of EU don't get me wrong just think we should have wait 5 more years but well now it's done can't go back |

| I've mentioned Ukraine because it's seriously being considered. Much more so since The Orange Revolution. Anyways, this is why the EU are a bunch of ing morons. Sure, let's accept a country that is by far behind just to satisfy the muslim world. What the hell kind of reasoning is that? Like, France Germany and Italy don't have their own huge economical problems lately cause of the Euro currency (amongst other problems). You want to welcome countries that are huge financial rut and you'll be forced to help them out, since that's what the EU does. Furthermore, 70 percent of people support Turkey entering? :haha: Best example that the European public knows as much about politics as the American's average Joe does. |

| I honestly don't understand why the EU wouldn't take a pause for a few decades maybe and see how the current 25 work, before even thinking about enlargement again, I mean they honestly think things will function somehow better with Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia, Macedonia, and last but not least Turkey. Right now they can't even get a budget together over squabbles about who pays what. The EU is like a runaway bullet train with no stops in sight. |

why are you lumping Romania and Turkey together?
it's Romania and Bulgaria
btw, we are being let in because we can benefit the EU, not because of the love of Romanian people... |

| that should just afford those countries with economic EU privileges. Thats all they really want I'm sure (and free work-force, but you don't even have that really between current EU nations). |

1. That Orange Revolution hasnt changed anything bro..just was in Ukraine visitng family that lives there now cuz of business..they say no change I still see a country full of poverty and corruption there is a middle class coming but at a 1% a year rate...
2. To satisfy the muslim world is rediculous thats just politics the problem I have with many european politicians at any level they all bend their rules to satisfy those who dont agree with us..
3. Economical problems in those countries are no where near the countries trying to enter the EU that statement is rediculous to compare France, Germany and Italys to Romania, Ukraine and Turkey..
4. I want to see where they did that poll probably England where all the ppl who voted are muslim! Euronews is based out of the UK is it not.... |

Many may disagree with me here, as I'm not from Europe, never been there, and know only a few people who live there, but I believe that more nations joining the EU could only benefit the EU at the minimum. Isn't the core of the EU charter (or is it constitution now?) about diversity and being accepting to everyone equally no matter what? Plus, wouldn't countries that are not up-to-par with EU standards & law be forced to change to EU standards if they were to choose to join the EU? It seems like a win-win situation to me with countries farther east joining up. Again, if anyone objects here, at least explain why to us non-EUers and not just a debate over keeping or losing 'nationalism' (whatever of it that still truly exists today)... |

dude you just agreed with what i said :p
the only problem i have with your post is number 3.
you misunderstood me what i meant to say is that the EU doesn't need more burden. By burden i meant countries like Ukraine and others
actually if anything the orange revolution created more problems. most of my fam is gone from that hole but my family in germany runs a business out of ukraine and germany (long story lol) and they say it's even worse now because Yuschenko is trying to change everything around and he's all over the place without a solid plan for any aspect of government. our people's fav thing is export if you don't know and know the customs are like 10 times more expensive and harder to do because he tried to establish a commitie over it to lessen coruption and with that had to raise prices to pay for jobs and all... but that's another subject.
Euronews is the worst damn chanel for news. and you're damn right about those polls.
i think you'll agree with me that every gov't has it's own idiots just like all countries have their own morons living it. |
