make sure you have something similar to the white chocolate caramel cookie chiller at Gloria Jean's. I drink that every chance i get.
but yeah.. wi-fi is almost a must now days and its good for college students. comfy chairs, soft but good lighting (colors are fun :gsmile: )
mellow music, not too loud..
lotsa on the walls/ceilings. atmosphere is a must. try and find an interior design major who'll help you set up the place all nice for free or next to nothing. |

| If no one comes into your shop you should fill up the chairs with blow up sex dolls & give the illusion that it is packed for happy hour |

What do you think will be your competitive advantage? What will help you really stand out from the rest?
* Differentiation - make something that is different to all of your competitors, something that makes you stand out
* Cost leadership - cheapest prices
* Niche/focused strategy - you could target a particular group or demographic such as college students, EDM lovers etc etc
In order to be successful, you would need to make sure that there would be sufficient demand for your coffee shop.
How many competitors would you have?
How much capital will you need to start up the business?
Lots of things that you have to think about before you even begin to formulate your business plan ;) |

a. what is a good business plan for a cafe?
Get a demographic of the area. Find out if certain people prefer coffee over other groups of people (race, age group, etc) or vice versa. The young to old ratio. You don't want to sell coffee to a town where 90% of the people drink beer. For example if i were making a prescription drug for senior citizens i would never make the pamphlet in a 3 point type font because they would have trouble reading it. You know....stuff like that.
b. what problems am i likely to face?
Not being able to sell under your own name. You might want to sell under a franchise name such as Starbucks. Those type of coffeeshops sell themselves. There are probably coffeeshops on campus.
c. should i do this?
Based on your statement, your parents would only help you if you open a coffee shop. What if you would rather open a record shop instead. Would they still help you? This is a question you're gonna have to ask yourself.
d. what makes a great coffee shop? (id have edm on sat. nights or something along those lines)
Environment mostly. Cushion chairs, sofas, the enticing aroma. For example Mc Donalds uses these uncomfortable chairs in their fast food restaurants to make people leave faster, hence the fast food aspect. Their trademark colors red and yellow induce a hunger effect according to certain studies.
e. what foods/drinks are most popular.
you should have a variety for every taste when it comes to coffee. Depending on your shop you might want to include french pastries and tasty/pricey-looking desserts. |
