My fifth narrowly-avoided near-certain death experience

I was coming up on a red light, doing a little over speedlimit, and just when i was getting ready to slow down and stop, the light turned green. So i let go of the brakes, shifted back up to 3rd, and gave it some gas. That's when i looked to my left and realized that a Toyota heading towards the red light on the other side of the intersection was going a little too fast to stop. At that moment, both of us were doing about 70km/hr and it hit me: it's not GOING to stop! I held my breath and slammed the brakes. The ABS kicked in and i could feel it grinding as my car came to a screeching stop about a meter away from the Camry, which surely enough, flew right through the red.
Thank God i wasn't going 5km/hr faster. Thank God the other car wasn't driving 3 feet closer to the right. Thank God it was +5C and not -1C. Thank God i turned my head then and not 1/10th of a second later. Thank God i reacted so quickly. Thank God my brakes are nearly new. Thank God the dealer spotted a problem with my front tires three weeks ago and put on new ones. Thank God these and a thousand other factors that could have easily not been in my favor, were. Had they not, i would have been T-boned at 70km/hr, thrown against a giant concrete bridge pillar, and sandwiched inbetween. There would have been nothing left of me or my car. I'm an agnostic, but i admittedly drew a cross in the air as i was sitting there and realizing what had just happened.
I finally released my breath and took a quick look around. Every car on both streets was now standing still and the only one that was still moving, rather quickly away from us, was... you guessed it, the Corolla. When i realized that the that had just nearly killed me was now trying to get away, i once again slammed the pedal, this time the gas. His 150hp was no match for my 300 and seconds later, i was next to him. Without even thinking, i swerved in front of his car, forcing him to stop. I jumped out of the car, fully intending to kick some serious ass, i realized that the driver was a middle-aged woman. ! And i couldn't even call the cops because that would only cost me an hour of time and a 100-dollar ticket for forgetting my ownership papers at home.
On the bright side, at least i'm not dead. |

I was just kidding. it really doesn't matter.
sorry to hear about the retardedness. I had the same thing happen to me that night of the first snow fall... I had to swerve across two lanes of on comming traffic to avoid being smashed into... except I'd been fully stopped seconds before when she ran her red. So she was going about 70 to my 20. she then slowed down and when I came by to look at her she pretended she never even saw me then or before! |

Man, I thought this would be a cool near death experience. Like wrestling with a grizzly bear, or insulting a black guy in Harlem. :D
Good to know you're alive though. |

Good to know you're okay, bro. Since the brakes are so new, better check out with the dealer to make sure the rotors haven't warped at all...chances are they haven't but just in case you need to slam the brakes at 100 km/h on the highway, you better be DAMN sure they'll respond to perfection! :)
P.S. I'm still waiting for a commercial mortgage referral! :p |
