Or wait until PS3 comes out in the Spring, which is going to be a considerably better system.

It's going to be 499.99 - just like XBOX 360.
Market research deems when you start to price things OVER 500 dollars, people then deem it "too costly" and will wait for the price to drop. One cent under however...different story.
I can get the comp chart from work and scan it in if you're really dying to see the comparison haha. |

$499 for the bundle with HD cables, hard drive, wireless controller, etc etc. PS3 will be barebone, like the 360 Core package. Thats 100 bucks more for JUST the system. I remember reading an article where Sony confirmed the U.S price to be between $300-400, so if the system goes for 399.99 in the States, it'll sell for 499.99 here, like you said :)
As for the 1-cent difference. Of course! That's why so many things these days are priced at xx.99...that 1 cent makes a huge difference in a persons percieved value of a product.
