Heya,
So lately I've decided I need to expand the variation of patches I use for percussion. I have all the resources needed to get the Roland 808/909 sounds and all. I've been using Waldorf Attack a lot also, but I was hoping people on this forum would be able to recommend something to create a harder percussive sound prominent in tracks on the hard trance/techno/tribal tip (think: Marco V, Sam Sharp, Sander van Doorn...) Any suggestions??
Thanks peeps! |

I too would be most interested in this type of sound. i love Marco V's production style and any tips on how to get that real chunky, tech, tribal sound would be cool.

So you're looking for a drum synth orrrrr samples?
If you are looking for samples I recommend the Vengeance Club Sounds Vol.1 |

| I think it's going to be more how you place fx over otherwise "cleansounding" drum samples... |

| A simple way to go about this is to use old 70s drumfills and -loops and take single or double hits from them |

Techno is all about tight drums and well-timed FX. It doesn't really matter what samples you use - you'll generally want to use thinner drum samples, except maybe for the kick.
Basically what you need is:
- Proper EQing
- Lots of layers (kick-hat-snare won't cut it)
- Good hard compression
- Short samples (otherwise use an envelope)
- Go easy on the reverb
And of course, creativity with the effects - filters, various types of modulation, gates and gaps, etc.
