Scratch DJ Academy

There was an article from yesterday's Miami Herald about the opening of Scratch DJ Academy in Miami. It's already open in NY and LA. Really interesting "why-didn't-they-think-of-this-before" kinda thing. They have full setups. It's 300 bucks for 6 1 hour classes, but then you can come in anytime during that 6 week period to practice. It's managed by respectable DJ's (Miami has DJ Immortal, Edgar V, and DJ Irie, to name a few), and it's not limited to scratching. It's great for those of us who are interested but either can't afford TT's or dont have any friends with tables.

I might check this out next summer... :toothless:

Err, it'll take a lot more than six weeks to truly become good at anything DJ'ing.

No doubt, but I still think it's a cool idea just to let people get their hands on some decks and a mixer.

you can do that at the record store...

all this is gonna do is continue the "it's cool to be a dj like usher in his new movie" trend that's been progressing over the last five years...

The Rhyhtm Institute's been operating for several years, teaches the tricks and know-hows of several styles, from house to hip hop.

This is nothing new. There's been university courses on electronic music now.
