sorry if this is another newbilicious question but which is better: FLoops or Reason? Although I'm sure most users think Reason is far superior, IDarkISwordI could you give me an honest assessment? I've been meddling with FL Studio for a little bit now and I think it has everything needed for a full production. Any opinions would be great.
:D

IDarkISwordI, one other thing. I followed the link to your ALLFRUIT.mp3 but can't seem to download either the mp3 or the flp. Just thought you'd might want to know. I was looking forward to checking it out.

For someone starting out, Reason is going to be much better. Unless you want to spend huge amounts of time finding drum samples and VSTs elsewhere, go with Reason. I have FL right now, and with no commercial VSTs, trying to make anything sound semi-professional is a living hell. I'm probably going to move to Cubase SX3 soon, though. Yay.

Seriously though, unless you want to invest huge sums of time and money into FL, get Reason.

Okay. But I heard Reason is very difficult compared to FLoop. Is that true?

that is waht they say here. Honestly just as many people think it is the other way around. Download the demo and try it out I say!

Hey. I can never stress this enough to people; the big decision sint which is easier or better. Yes, Reason does come with a much better sample pack but then at the same time, you get only a single subtractive synth with Reason. There are drawbacks to both putting them on fairly equal grounds. The biggest reason (haha no pun intended ;)) I went with FLS is because I like the layout. Simple as that... The workflow in FLS is much more intuitive to the way I think, which is somewhat detached. I like taking in small chunks of information at a time. At the same time, other people feel much more comfortable looking a screen that shows as much information as it can. One thing that really pisses me off about Reason though is the fact that it utilizes half of the screen, but thats just an opinion. One thing to consider when deciding is how crazy and dirty you want to get. If you want to keep it simple and clean, Reason might be for you. FLS, on the other hand, supports a huge amount of plugins allowing you to do tons and tons of crazy with different plugins. Thats about all there is to the debate between them. Like I said, it comes down to your personal workflow style. I'm not going to say dont go for Reason jsut because I dont use it. I'm also not going to recomend FLS or Cubase or Sonar or Pro Tools or anything else. Many people mistake workflow for being a problem witht he software. You just need to try out a bunch of different programs and see which works best for you. If you dont like Reason or FLS, you're probably better off with a multi-tracker (which most people, including myself dont mind working in a multi-tracker environment).

About ALLFRUIT vol1, try it again. Sometimes SiteSled is a bitch and goes down. Its best to try it again. If it doesnt work, wait a few hours after this post and I'll have my new website up and everything (www.dsmusic.org).

Cheers,
Zac

I second what DarkSword said. Personally I went with FLS because I like to work with a lot of different sounds and the many VSTs that you can get provides me with this variety. Otherwise you're either stuck with the Subtractor and Maelstrom. I mean you got the NN-XT and the NN-19 for samplers but you got a fruity sampler you could use also. To me, FLS just has more possibilities in the end. I tried Reason and liked it but the FLS layout was just like "Wow so easy" to me. Check out the demos see what you like more and go from there. Good luck

Okay, so here's my next quetion to you FL pro's (let me know if I'm getting annoying here, heheh) how do I know where and what I need to compress in FL Studio?

When I'd record on my DAW I would automatically compress the kicks, percussive instruments, basslines and anything with deep 'bassy' type frequencies, I noticed with Fruity there really is no clip meter on the playlist screen, should I just play it by ear and if everything sounds like it's fitting in the stereo spectrum without getting muddy or drowning out other sounds, don't compress?
Really, the bass frequencies sound pretty clean as they are, the kick has a nice punchiness already, but this is on my monitors (custom - homemade monitors)I've used these monitors with my DAW before I went software but now I'm using them with the computer, for the most part they have a fairly flat frequency response and in the past have been fairly true to the 'real' sound with little embellishments.

Any advice?

I like to created that variety myself, in Reason. VSTi have presets, I make my own. I only use samples(presets) for drums.

Just back to the first thing you wrote .. just listen to the demos that come with fl of course you can make a professional song..no problems there. And for a bit more ease yes use the waves plugins imo they sound much better than the fl ones.

i cant be bothered finding vsti's and crap on the net, that and i dunno what's good.

all my songs are made purely with FL Studio because of this, and they dun sound that bad i guess.

I think it is cuz i just switched to Reason 3 from FL 5.
FL interface is much easier compared to Reason( may be cuz i have just switched to it thats y i think) but over a period of time ull get use to it.Also, Reason's sound bank comes with a plenty of samples already to keep you goin ( atleast more than fruity ).
But its like every coin has two sides.
It will be good to use the demo and find out which is the best that suits you.
