Im fairly new to production and have a question for all you pros out there.
Whats the method of production that you usually use? or do you use one at all? What I mean is in what order do you usually produce, meaning what do you start with, the melody? the bass lines? the beat?
Is there a specific order that these should be inplemented in in order to speed up the production process, or do you just go at it all at the same time improving everything as you go?
For me, as of right now I just create melodies that sound interesting, then try to add the beats and basslines into it afterwards. What about you? |

Essentially, I sit down at my workstation and bust out some choonz. At least that's usually the process. :p |

Pudelko, I basically do what you do but once I get the melody I try to think of a structure for the song and how I'd like it to move. From there I start creating basslines based off the notes on the melodies and same thing with my pad. Go from there and you should be golden. It doesn't really matter how you create your music though just as long as in the end it sounds nice. You'll develop a style the longer you produce. |

Varies for me, sometimes I hear a cool bassline idea in my head and I start with that, than percussion etc etc, other times I might be fiddling around on my keys and come up with something and build around it. |

I start with a beat... and than add melody and baseline, If I like it than go from there..

I just make music. The ends matter more than the means, as far as that goes. |

I usually have a melody in mind. I sit at the piano, play it out, then figure out a way of making it dance-able. The bass/percs/etc. come later. Sometimes, though, I'll write a bassline, and whatever I start humming over it will be the melody I use.
As a general rule, I listen to a lot of stuff I want to replicate the sound of before I start to get a flavor of it in my head. |

Alright thanks everyone. So generally just getting the main melody from your head into the program is the first step. Sounds like what I do.

most of the time i have a certain idea or image in my head wich i try to "paint" with a certain sound or melody... the best way to do that (i think) is use an analog modeling bassed synth like vanguard or rob papen blue
after that i try to make a melody wich creates impact & emotion
when that is done i try to finnishes the "image/idea" of the song with additional leads/pads/srx sounds
when that's done me add the standart trance/tech/prog elements like kick, clap, basslines etc.
hope this helps :) |

How I produce..
By sitting back and relax and telling my sound engineer what to do.
Then I go home to feed my pet rabbit, and come back again to see if he's doing exactly what I told him to. |

Preferably:
I sit at the piano and come up with a melody and chords or
Since I lack space for a piano at the moment I just play what is in my head on a keyboard.
The hard part is getting it translated from my head to the .WAV file.
Other times I just start fiddling with knobs and chords and see where it takes me. |
