Above & Beyond "Tri-State" Coming Soon...

Q. So how’s it going with the album?

Jono: “The album is shaping up very well indeed and I believe we have some really great songs on there. It's been interesting for us to work on an album, as we spent the last five years making singles for clubs. Working on an album is very liberating, as you don't have to think about keeping a dancefloor moving, you can concentrate on the music. I'm sure people who like our music in clubs will love it, and of course there will be club mixes of many of the tracks. I'm hoping we'll be one of the first acts to pull off an album in this genre with real quality and sincerity, just as bands like Underworld did years ago. It's not a token album that's there to serve a purpose, it's raw and real - what you're getting is just the three of us with our vocalists.”

Q. What can we expect?

Paavo: “Expect the unexpected! We've really gone back to the roots of the music we love: we wanted everything on there to be a strong song, as this is what makes a great album. We've been working on “Tri-State” now for a good few years, and have been writing tons of material. We now have the difficult task of choosing the tracks that will make it onto the album! There are songs ranging from chilled, movie-soundtrack things to dark, clubby moments and uplifting tracks. “Tri-State” won't sound like a DJ mix compilation, though; we're aiming to do something more unique.”

Q. Why is it called “Tri-State”?

Tony: “It’s a title that seems to fit a lot of things. On one level there are three of us in Above & Beyond, with three different unique personalities and different nationalities (Jono is British, Paavo is Finish and I’m Irish). On another level we have three different aspects that are involved in this album – we are producers, we are DJ’s and we are musicians/songwriters. And then there are the Three Realms of Existence, the three states of matter and the three dimensions. Three is the magic number!”

Q. What tracks do we know already?

Jono: “"Alone Tonight" and "Air For Life". I think that's it! It's all fresh material other than that, and we're keen to hold back on showing it to the public for a while - it's amazing how quickly people regard tracks as "old" in the internet age. We could have dug up our catalogue and put some of those tracks on there, but we're more interested in doing new things rather than dwelling on the past.”

Q. Who else is on the album, singers etc?

Paavo: We've been working with some amazing singers, including Richard Bedford (who sings Alone Tonight and another song), Ash from Luminary, an exciting new British singer called Hannah Thomas and we've done a beautiful new track with Zoë Johnston too.”

Q. Any surprises?

Tony: “We are really trying hard to move forward all the time. Hopefully it will be a feast of pleasant surprises.”

More news before Christmas!

Hmm sounds like they are gonna show a side of them that is not known. The more creative one. From the other side though maybe the "creativity" they mean is what we call another boring ambient track or prog .Time will tell

that pretty much sums it up. It all depends on whether their idea of creative is indeed a few trance tracks, mixed in with a couple of downtempo ones and maybe a proggy electro thing for good measure. Or infact it is actually a very interesting and creative album, either way regardless of what ive thought of their recent stuff im still pretty interested to hear it when the time comes.

Remixes like Three Drives - Sunset on ibiza (Above and Beyond Mix and Progressive mix) are hell of tracks or maybe their remixes on chakra - home or their track far from in love could work indeed or their older oceanlab producing and remixes (excluding their latest satellite).I hope they get back to that style. From the satellite and after the trio really changed their style to somethin different to the style that the industry was headed.I used to love above and beyond i liked their sound,,e.g the kicks velocity was well balanced with the bass rhythm and/or with the flow or the track...lately that balance is lost on the very "strong" kick that tires the ear and makes it TOO solid...that's only a point proving what i am sayin. And also Air for life tune has a hell of a melody and the vocals are perfect THOUGH the rest of the track sux big time. That andy moor bass is destroyin the trance sound ITS NOT EVEN TRANCEY is like having cheesy house track with a trance melody:(
As conclusion i hope above and beyond along with there nowadays style trance include some oldays style track(not just tracks made in the past) so they can please their audience which has been listening to them from their beginning

my 2 cents

And a day...

It's Christmas Eve.

But anyway, there has been some news (sort of):

Anjunabeats and Above & Beyond will be hosting a special album launch party at Canvas in London on Saturday March 4th, 2006.

We're just finalising the line-up and will announce it here in the first week of Jan, but meantime grab a big marker pen (or 'Sharpie' if you're in the US) and make a note in your diary.

Uncle A

ps. a good place to look for cheapest flights to London is http://www.traveljungle.co.uk

That was posted by the Anjunabeats forum's Administrator. So the news is that the launch party is happening in London. But there might be more news in the next twelve hours. Maybe.
