Review: Sean & Damian @ L'ily

The night started out pretty slow, but progressed into one fantastic evening!!

Sean got things rolling in typical fashion - groovy, sleazy house for the first hour or so. But as he usually does, hour number two was where it got a little filthy. Tossed a bit of tribal and electro for good measure, finishing off a flawlessly crafted set. Sean has improved his already near flawless mixing/technical skills, since seeing him close down Boa-Redux. Great job buddy - you played the 'small room' sound to perfection.

Damian then took things to the minimal side to start - fusing electro, acid, techno, and house to create quite a unique sound. It was a drastic change to what Miller had played, so it took about a half hour for the crowd to adjust. By the time i had to leave, it seemed as if Lazerus was in full swing - dropping bombs! This guy deserves a shot at playing to a bigger crowd, and definately would eat up a massive system.

Great night (especially for a Thursday) - good to see a few of the regulars, and some of the old faces i hadn't seen in ages. Props to Carey for putting together (yet again), another amazing party - and to Sean for coming out after a long and busy tour.

Definitely a great party. Really enjoyed Sean's set especially the filthy beats in the second hour. Really liked Damian's sound...was a of a drastic change compared to what Sean had played, as Jeff said, but once you found your groove it was most excellent. Nice to see so many familar faces and such a friendly crowd. Had far too many rye's so I am now paying the price with a massive headache at work. :(

Thanks to Carey once again for organizing another great night.

couldn't agree more....after not hearing Sean since Boa closed, this night made me realize how spoiled we were to hear him every weekend..
Carey
Sorry that it has taken so long to write...I woke up on Friday morning (okay afternoon) and pretty much did what I needed to get done before jumping in a car to go see Tiesto (at Circus) and Chus & Ceballos (at Stereo)...but that is whole nother story.

In any case...to focus on the WeGroove jam Thursday, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see so many familiar faces...and just generally surprised at how good the turn out was given the ty weather. I was worried early in the night, but in the end I was really happy to see so many dedicated music lovers!

Just about everyone I spoke to had either said "it has been too long since I have heard Sean and came out just to see him" or "The only reason I came out tonight was to hear Damian." Either way, dedicated you all where...and rewarded as well.

Sean was smooth as usual...and he really enjoyed himself...he asked me if he could do nigth by himself at Lily he enjoyed it so much...you know, he gets to play tunes that he would never play in a big room set and defintiely not after hours...what do you guys think...should we do a Christmas Special at Lily with Sean?

Damian also rocked it. That man has some seriously twisted beats...if anything is every going to be called "future house" that would have been it! The crazy part is that as twisted as his beats became they still worked so well in that little room...he always keeps nice chuggy pace and infuses some mad sounds that make your spin around to try to figure out where they are coming from.

Well, good times had by all...and looking forward to more!

See you all sooner that you expect...looks like I couldn't hold out for 2006 and I am going to have a couple of things coming your way before the end of the year. ;-)
