"open-nap" is what runs all the common P2P programs nowadays.. if anyone understands it, there probably is a way to either do a JAVA vers. of napster for us TAs or a standalone program that we coulkd use.. its a RAD idea though. AG is probly the best bet though for the time being.

| hmm... i feel the AG group can also be used as a p2p program. get a group formed with all the TA members, post a request for a song and any peps with that song in their hardrive can share it with the bros... |

| Audio Galaxy will work just fine for this concept. You know in audiogalaxy now they have it set up so that you can browse all the music files on anothers HD jus by clicking on their name (if they got it turned on). This kicks ass and gets me alotta good stuff ;) |

don't we already have Tranceaddict AG groups !!!!
I think we do...so in that case, we just need to clear up a few problems, for example, sending unwanted songs....that has been a problem prevoiusly....
maybe it should be a REQUEST------>SEND kind of thing...
I don't know...any other suggestions?? |

i'll be glad to temporalily host a DC hub, but i think my computer is getting a little obese with background processes (e.g. 24/7 FTP, other file-sharing progs, etc. and being a personal computer, not a dedicated server, it has to do a lot of other things at the same time too) probably best that i don't host one, lol..
and besides, DC is not that great for music sharing, better for video and software sharing.. AG groups are sufficient for music, in my opinion |

Sorry, but most of the time people in the ag group add songs, and they dont have them on sharing, so you wont get it off them, but off someother person, who has the song on share.
So it sounds a good idea, you just need people willing to give up their bandwith, and a programmer. Although i am sure it would just be a case of setting up an a hub, or ftp or sommit, were we all have our own loggin name, and you have to be a recognized ta, so you dont get leechers |

okay!, thats a cool idea
but!
the best way to go would be to use IRC (mIRC)
My friend has written an IRC server in java:)
we are looking for some people to come along so it's basically empty at the moment
We could setup a #TA channel in there, we could request songs and chat in their and simply dcc send each other songs.
The channel itself would be uninterupted by people outside TA simply because noone knows about the server apart from you guys :D and if we get people who cannot identify themselves being an active registered user of TA we could quite easily ban them hehe
I think i have a faily good idea here so please if you have time come along.
The address is:
irc.splog.net on port 6667
then just /join #TA
Don't worry if i am the only one there, just be patient and check back often!
Thanks a LOT!
- Dave

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
sounds good to me
EDIT: However i think we need a program where you can share your directories audiogalaxy style i think if i knew it was only TA's on thier i would have no hesitation sharing up all my mp3s/sets/videos and whatnots its just i keep them unshared with programs liek audiogalaxy and all cause i dont want a million people leeching, however if we had a program that searched the (im sure extensive) hdds of tas (most of which willing) we could basically track down alot of songs were after as the people on the network are intrested in similar styles etc so i thin it would be very effective (haha especially if wicked red/wicked neo shares thier hdds :D!) but seriously i think if we all knew it was going to other TA's everyone would share up and it would be cool, it would be cool if we had our own little program too that would be funky and maybe it could autho use by our status in the forums or something? |

DJ Dave B......can't we simply connect thru any server and then go to #TA...
so basically you got it all worked out...right??? |
|

Well, I've set up a Direct Connect hub just to see how this idea fares. It may be a little buggy (e.g. can't connect, very slow [see previous post as to why] and has minimal configs [no bots])
It's password protected (i.e. you'll need a username/password), and for my own security, the IP address of the hub will only be revealed to those that apply for an account.
If you're a DC user and would like to apply to this TA Hub:
Send me a PM with the following info:
- Your desired username
- Your desired password
And obviously to avoid the leechers:
- You must be a member of this forum
- You registered for this forum before January 3, 2002, otherwise you must have at least 10 posts and have been a member for at least a week (this clause obviously won't apply until January 10)
I'll respond within a day or two to confirm account creation and I will supply the IP address (which shouldn't be shared with anyone else).
Remember, this is just a test to see how this goes, not an official thing (i.e. don't get excited, lol, this idea could fail badly)
Final note: a good thing to note about DC hubs is that they can be somewhat interlinked with other servers (e.g. there can be more than one hub and file searches can be made across these hubs). Point being that anyone is invited to host a hub in sync with the one I'm hosting.
Anyway, I volunteered just to give this idea a shot. If anyone with a dedicated server wants to take over, be my guest :D |
