Good sample cds
View this Thread in Original format

Since they cost a kidney to buy, I'd like to know what some good sample cds to buy are. I'm mostly looking for one shot sample of percussion instruments for the more "realish" sounding house and trance.

thanks in advance!

I'm just gonna say I really like the vengeance CDs. They're all really well made so check that out.

In addition to vengeance, i also really like ueberschall techno trance essentials.

I would suggest "Projuiced Freshly Squeezed Tranceloops Vol1" as I use it alot, but like the title says its loop based.

Ugh, don't buy loop CDs.

The Vengeance Essential Clubsounds are good. Not impressed by anything else they've put out.

I also bought a couple of Doru Malaia's CDs, which I consider to be money well-spent.

If you can get your hands on some of the *older* Akai format CDs released by East West, many kick ass, but you need a program or device that can read Akai CDs. Don't waste your money on any of their new stuff, because it forces you to use NI's clumsy Intakt/Kompakt interface which IMO defeats the whole purpose of paying for SAMPLES.

Generally speaking, most of the sample libraries that cost a kidney actually suck. Most of the good sample libraries tend to be much more reasonably priced.

How is the Superdrums 8000 CD? I'm thinking of purchasing that, since I'm totally running out of small percussion samples (hi hats, shakers, tamborines.. etc)

BTW, nothing to do with this thread, but you should be a mod in this forum. ;)

I use it all the time - it's a massive and very well-organized library. It doesn't have the most phenomenal drum samples in the world but it's pretty much all you'd ever need as a meat-and-potatoes library.

The VEC I find has a lot more of the crunchy and "hard" samples, especially kicks. They're great when you need a little extra power, but there isn't as much variety with it because a lot of the space on the CD is taken up with loops. They also tend to sound rather conventional, whereas with the Superdrums CD you can always find something a little more unique.

Recommend me to Swamper, I'd love be able to close threads in here. ;)

This sample cd is very, very bad. If you buy the Vengeance Essential Clubsounds, you will have about 100x the amount of samples that's on this cd. This cd contains 40-ish loops that start from kickdrum with a couple of hihats, with some additional hits/claps which is completely useless I think. Then added are some sparse, uninteresting general drum sounds.

The samples are 24bit, 48KHz, which is completely unnecessary for drum samples lol. I recently bought this and immediately felt I could just as well throw it away again.

A good word of advice I think: DO NOT BUY THIS CD, get yourself some decent Vengeance Sample CDs instead.

[shameless selfpromotion]

you perhaps could also take a look at my cds if you like:

I tend to be wary of anything with the words "pro", "juiced", or "loops" in the title... all of them at the same time is just asking for trouble :stongue:

/me looks at Icone's shameless selfpromotion and laughs.

Icone you're lucky your tunes are top notch ;P

VEC is great in my opinion as I said before and so is the ueberschall. Never heard the Doru Malaia or Superdrum CDs but try them out. I mean they're getting good reviews from fellow music producers so check them out :D

Hey Diginut,

So you think that Vengenace Essential Clubsounds would be good for house/electro.. In the vein of guys like Steve Angello Eric Prydz Eric Morillo... Im not looking to copy these guys or anything but im looking for a good sample set with one shots that would give me those realish house kicks etc. that Inverse was talking about. Your posts are always very knowledgable if you think this sample sets the go Im gonna buy it.. What ya think?

Cheers mate...
