My first rant...

Ok...so let me set the stage...
I haven't hit up a club in over a month now so I'm itching to get out. Oakenfold at Avalon was tonight so I was pumped. I haven't seen the guy since 2001 at hammerstein. That was an unforgettable night. So I take my shower, gel up the hair, sport my new jeans, put on a sweet button down shirt and rock the aldo leather shoes. I get to the club, get some friction at the door about guestlists...whatever stupid bull. I get to the window and ask how much...the lady replies FORTY DOLLARS...FORTY DOLLARS??? i said sorry, no thanks...and peaced out...
now i know what you're thinking..."hey, for tiesto we're probably gonna pay 50 bucks, 40 ain't ." Forty bucks is reasonable in nyc cause you're paying for anywhere from 4-8+ hours of clubbing. In Boston...Oakie will probably spin for 2 Hours. WHAT THE . You have to be crazy to think i'm gonna pay 40 bucks for 2 hours of oakenfold. not when the opening dj is a boston local. I was so dissapointed. the most i ever payed at avalon was 30 bucks for PVD last year...and you're gonna tell me that oakenfold now is worth more than pvd??? GIVE ME A ING BREAK.
I can't believe that people will pay that much to see him still...i hope one of two things happen tonight. one, he plays the set of his life and totally blows the roof off the place so he can prove me wrong and make me regret not paying to see him, or two, he sucks so badly and trainwrecks every mix so that everybody in the place will storm the ticket booth and demand their money back...
oh well...at least this gave me the chance to check out that chinese place down the block... |

What time did you get there? I was at avalon boston for PVD last year and I heard people who were getting in after midnight paid 30-40. That's why I always get there right at 10, 10:15. You end up paying $10 on the Cassiamor Guest list. Get in, have a couple beers and listen to the opener, doesn't hurt.
Gotta remember that Boston closes at 2am and if there's a big name DJ there, they'll jack prices. TIESTO last tuesday was actually sold out. I don't understand people who want to go out and see the PVDs, ARMINs in Boston and don't get there early. |

| I totally understand you point, it's really good, and I'll give you credit for turning away, that takes some balls, especially if like you said, he's gonna play for two hours. Personally I'm so used to paying so much I usually don't care what the door costs, cuz a night out cost so much an extra 10-20 bux isn't gonna make that much of a difference. What I wonder is, is it Oaky's fault it's that much money at the door, like is he charging the club so much that need to charge 40 bux, or is it the club taking advantage of the fact they have a huge DJ and can charge whatever they want, assuming the club has a share in the door with the promoter. Kinda changes the way I look at the situation. Also I guess it depends on how much of a fan of the DJ I am. If it's Johan or Ferry, I'd probably pay any rediculous price even for a two hour set, but those two are my hardcore favorites. If it was a big DJ that I liked, but wasn't on the top of my list, I'd have to think about it. Oh man here I go... speaking of rant lol... peace :) |

I'd pay 50$ for a night of Sasha and Zabs. That's about it though. No one else is worth even 40$ to me.
And maybe a rare DJ that never comes to the states. Like Osamu M. |

| Tiesto is in NYC, and hell if I paid $40-50 to go see him tonight. Its not the music Im fearing (although, it is in the back of my mind), but its the rediculous crowd thats gonna be there that I have no patience to be apart of. Crobar is gonna make a sardine can look empty - and I would have a hard time having fun being within that atmosphere. |

| Oaky never plays more then 2 hours anywhere. Your actually getting a discounted price. I paid 44 for 2 hours of oaky @ crobar on Thursday. It was 50 @ the door. |

I rolled up at 9:30, the earliest i've ever gone to avalon...and usually that's what i do...get there early, get into the vibe and enjoy the opener...I like eli, he spins good stuff, but he wasn't even there last night. it was adilson. what really pisses me off is that avalon, perfecto, or who ever was in charge of booking oakie last night, couldn't get a decent opening act. At least at crobar you payed to see oakie, seb fontaine, and liquid todd...and not just till 2 am... |
