Silly question, but is phasing the same as equing?
dinoXpress
phasing (correct me if im wrong) is when 2 frequencies line up and then they create the "phase" effect or cancelling effect (like when sometimes 2 kick drums seem to cancel out)

and equing is fiddlin with knobs...

HOWEVER..

By equing, you make sure your frequencies dont cancel out and that it sounds smooth...

BTW, is your sig sarcastic?

tiesto like mixing skills?
Liam
lol that is a good sig ha.

phasing when applied to dj mixing is about aligning the mixes up properly so that they r in the correct beat and sequence.. which will have elements of tracks working cooperatively. Its not quite the literal term for phasing effect as mentioned above.

i didnt understand the name phrasing.
but all in all it's clear now.
and what equig is is clear too.(for long time i knew it, 2 years or so)
to exchange the bass in the mix to not get this ty flanging effect.
and all in all i have reade it maybee the wrong way, should be phrasing.
and what phrasing is i know now. that is easy to doo.
32 beats-32 beats

and the sig is to boast. hehe :D

No, that's PHRASING :p

People always seem to think that phasing is when the beats are parfectly matched and they cancel - this isn't quite true, it's actually when they're ever so slightly out (by half an oscillation of the waveform, or one and a half oscillations etc) such that peaks in one waveform are aligned with troughs in the other (i.e. they're out of phase) so they cancel out. Although we're talking about about a hundredth of a second out at the most here.

Best thing to do to overcome it is often to ever so slightly nudge one of the records and hope it ends up in phase! EQuing may help hide phasing between two tracks a bit (particularly effective with kicks although the midrange of the kick may still flange) but won't stop it from happening.

EQuing is simply changing the volume of different frequencies of the music (bass, mid, treble ranges etc) - doesn't necessarily have anything to do with avoidance of a phasing effect.
