Question-
If you smoke and you are in your OWN car and you happen to be doing a favor for someone by driving them somewhere and the person does not smoke do you smoke anyway because its YOUR car? or do you fight the urge until they get out...
Same question for if you are home and having non smoking visitors?....
me personally I beleive my car my rules my house my rules if you dont like it them dont ask me for a ride (there is an exception to the rule for children etc. since they really have no choice in the matter)
This topic came up since I have a friend that is such a complainer. I respect his car and dont do it in his but I feel I should be able to do it in mine if I want to, its not like I blow it in his face. I roll the windows down for fresh air and then he complains that its too windy :wtf:
Opinions please :D |

If I'm giving a ride to a non-smoker I will make my best efforts to limit the amount I smoke, however, when I break down and have one I will do so whilst driving (this is only a problem on long drives). I do this because I know I didn't like people smoking around me when I didn't smoke and so long as it really isn't a hassle to me I would like to be a considerate as possible to my friends.
I do not allow smoking in my house... even Mrs. Hazard and I have to go outside. |

In NY they are making it especially hard to smoke anywhere like bars, restaurants etc so Ill be damned if I give up the last couple of places I actually CAN smoke. As it is the news says something is in the works regarding not smoking in your car and public parks etc and they have started doing it in other states already. |

| smoking in front of a person who MINDS it is indeed inconsiderate. true that there's no law about me smoking in front of people who don't but there's no law that says i can't come over to your table and piss or fart on your steak but you don't see people doing it because it's called good manners. |

Well that's a bit like saying "when I'm in my car I like to punch people in the face, so ride with me at your own risk" ;)
Some people are very sensitive to second hand smoke (such as myself), or might be trying to quit, etc. So yes in a mild way it is inconsiderate. Your car, your house, your rules - that's fine, but it might make people think twice about coming to your house or riding in your car. |

good point. i had a friend once who's father wanted to get a big dog (never specified which breed). my friend was like are you nuts we live in an apartment get a medium size dogs like a bulldog or something, his father is like no i want a big dog and i want an agresive one as well. so my friend is like dad we'll have like no friends and his father is like they'll come over at their own risk. so he got a boxer who is ornary as hell. no one comes over anymore ;) |

Yea I hear ya regarding not smoking in the house, it gets in your furniture and makes your walls discolored. If I lived in a house I would probably do the same but I live in a building with nosy ass neighbors.
For example the other day I was walking behind my building and It was cold so I just wanted to get into my car, turn it on an get the heat comin in as fast as possible so I cut through the lawn behind the building instead of using the little concrete paths they have. Some old hag actually opens the window and calls me and I am thinking ok maybe she needs help because she looked pretty fraile and had some tubes comin out of her nose so being the nice person I am I walk over to her window and say "yes" and she goes well there are sidewalks to walk on you know and at this point I was angry for her wasting my time with such as snide remark so I told her well I am sure that you are ancient enough to know that before there were sidewalks there was grass.
So imagine me hanging out in front of my building everytime I wanted a cigarette. I would probably be reported for selling drugs or something. |

Yes I understand your point of view but this is mine, my friends should know me well enought to know I smoke so if they do no agree why put themselves in a position like asking me for a ride if they know I will smoke. Also why would I have to change myself in any way in order to do THEM a favor. |
