*UPDATED* Better mixing and hosted on DJTRX;)
Another project of mine that took a long time for me to put together. The warm orchestral sounds of the Juno-D were very useful here. I also put in a ambient sorta build-up.
Title: No Problems (Original Mix)
Genre: Epic/Melodic
Time : 9:50
Technical data:
* Roland Juno-D
* Cubase SX
* Acid PRO 4 (for mixing all tracks together)
* Fruity "Plucked!" (softsynth)
*this page (press "click to listen")
Hope you enjoy, it's my best effort so far! |

Listening
Intro has me interested....
Nice to hear a different type of kickdrum, this is pretty cool, bass is nice and driving, and the vocal sample works nicely.
The square sounds are awesome, perhaps you could fade them in...I love that panned closed hi hat you bring in, really drives the song. Nice piano chords, you are building this up rather nicely indeed. The strings at 2.20 are awesome man, this is getting rather good indeed...though it is starting to get a bit muddy with that piano and the synth, more is less in this case i think ...you should definitely use those string hits more - they sound excellent...at the break now very dreamy, I like this melody, although it is hard to follow if flows nicely....I don't think you need a saw synth in this track, starts to cheapen it a bit...beat is back again :), bass changes are welcome. Think you maybe have too many loud sounds here...or perhaps some more equalizing on them...but im certainly no expert on eq :D. 6.10 fooking right you bring those strings in again - they are awesome indeed...they make the song epic indeed...another awesome change at 7.00 - mood changes again...7.40 back again man you have some ideas :eyespop:.
Musically you know what you are doing man, this is a very original song, I wasn't bored once throughout the whole song...I also like the way you don't use the break as the whole point of the song...like buildup...breakdown...main part - its nice to hear something a bit different. Excellent work man hopefully you will get a few more replies (first get somewhere decent to host the song rather than that yousendit e). Sorry for this ridiculously long winded review, I was just rather impressed by this :) |

Thanks man!
Every's goodbye to a Trance genre has to be a good one. That's what I kept in mind making this.
I probably know what causes the muddiness. Has to be the strings that are too loud. I'll try some more mastering this weekend, see what we're getting to:o

| sounds like nostalgia in sound form with great instrumentation and melodic work :) i liked it, from the piano to the moving bassline to the suttle atmospheric details. Great skillz here in this epic tune. |

It is indeed moving. THe Plucked synth was nicely used as a square lead.
Kinda reminds me of a video game soundtrack with a trance-beat tacked on. The trance beat itself was not half bad, and the hats generic, though fitting.
The Strings give this track a very powerful effect. They compliment the bass drops well, and I applaud your use of the saw. I really like saw leads, even tiny ones. 3 minutes passed by like nothing as I listened to this.
I rather liked the breakdown... The saw seemed to gather more energy from when I listened to it previously.
The kick, however, seemed to lose some of it's zest with the new elements. The kick could use some more smack.
Otherwise, the EQing issue is minor to me. I still thoroughly enjoyed your ideas. Impressive work. |

Very nice track here. Really cool and original piano chords in the beginning, like it:) . Break is very nice with some subtle effects in the background. Very nice melodies overall. Now for the mix. It sounds that you use not that good quality samples here. The kick and open hh i think could sound a lot better, they sound very lq. If you begin with changing these, the overall mix should allready have a far more clearer sound i think. I really like this one, maybe there's a bit too much going on in the track, and i miss something that really sticks in mind because of that, but your productionskills are very good. Only try to work on the overall mix, use higher quality perc. samples. Keep up the good work.

i like the sound before the kick comes in. really subtley weired sounding. kick doesnt sound quite full enough for my likeing.
piano is not to my liking:( maybe add some reverb or delay to make it sit in the track a bit more?
string stabbs are a bit weak. why not give the 'a1' synth from cubase a bit of use? there are a few really nice sounds on it..
you have a very original sound and your track is really summery sounding.
i just think some of your synth selections are a bit weak.
oh - 6;20 this is more like it. i like the sound a lot more now. it sounds more sophisticated. the only thing im not sure on is the string stabs again.
keep going in the way your going. nice to see a cubase user:)
its harder to get a pro sounding track early on with cubase but once we start really learning it i think its a really nice tool and your work will sound so much more pro.
oh and ps. i think also your samples may let you down. are you appling distorsion as a way of upping their volume or somthing like that?

Thanks for the comments guys,
I notice some of you have mentioned that the kickdrum might be too muddy, rather than punching. I recall I used this kick in other tracks, with the descent punching-effect in it. Might bring that back cause it worked back then.

Can't be any more powerfull than "real" hardware synth, does it? It's probably the bass I cut off those strings. Should not have done it I guess, but it was part of the plan that would've contributed to "clearer" sound LOL:p

| This is a great melody, nice quick buildup around 2:19, and the strings afterwards are a good touch. I'm having a bit of music ADD at the moment so I'll stop the review there, but this is definitely a keeper. |

great tune!! i wont bother with a review as RickyM's intial review was pretty spot on.
great work though. love the ideas in it. production just needs a lil cleaning up as it does get cluttered from time to time.
well done! |
