My favorites:
Battle Royalle - The Japanese government sees little hope of the future in the hands of current day students. To scare them into becoming better students with a brighter future, they have created a program called Battle Royalle. Every year, the worst performing class will be selected. What are rules of BR? Kill everyone you see and become the sole survivor on a deserted island. This even means killing your friends. Besides from being a blood bath, i enjoy this movie a lot because of so many different forms of psychology between each character. Anyone who watches will identify with a character. Some are having fun killing, some are timid, others just don't want to kill.

Battle Royalle 2 - The sequel to BR. Same situation, some new rules. This go-around, students are forced to kill a "terrorist faction" that are out to stop BR. There is a beach scene familiar to Saving Private Ryan, except everyone has a machine gun. Its still a good movie, but is not as good as the original. There is lots of talk that shouldn't belong into a movie like this.

Audition - A man fakes a movie audition to find the woman of his dreams. He falls in love with on of those who tried out. He sets up "business" meetings, consistantly lying about the truth behind the audition. Fact is, this woman is SERIOUSLY ED UP. The final sequence had some noises that made me want to take off the headphones and bang some loud thumping music to get it out of my head. its' really really gory.

Ive heard of a movie that i think is called "a tale of two sisters." supposedly it was the most successful horror movie of 2004 internationally. id like to see it but i can't find it anywhere here

anyways, your turn

I think the Tale of Two Sisters is one in a series of movies compiled into one called Three.

Gotta check that one out :D, heard about the Audition...sound cool.

Check out Parasite Eve, not sure if it's based on the game or vice-versa...or if it has anything to do with the game at all...but it's a good one.

edit
Battle Royale was lol worthy, some really funny fight scenes.

I own both and the sequel is, as most sequels are, disappointing. I thought it was pretty bad compared to the first. I can also see people who were affected by 9/11 or other forms of terrorism not taking the sequel well, as it delves into that topic quite a bit.

The book that Battle Royale is based on is really, good, too. It's definitely more psychological than the movie, as it has a lot more time to get into character development in the 600-700 pages. Also, some of the death scenes are different from the movie. Definitely a recommended read. I'm just pissed I lost my copy.

No, it's the book - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/15...=books&v=glance

And there's only one "l" in Royale. ;)

I've been getting into Japanese films quite alot recently too. :D

Azumi 1 & 2
The Hidden Blade
Ashura-jo no Hitomi

^all samurai flicks... Azumi being the most popular one, although I highly recommend The Hidden Blade.

All About My Dog - 8 short cute films from 7 directors about dogs! :wtf:

TONY TAKITANI - A very nicely paced film. It goes through the life of Tony from a school kid to middle aged man. Has a mysterious yet tranquil presense throughout the movie.

And just this previous week, Sydney was holding a small Japanese Film Festival, I only managed to catch one film; Hinokio: Inter Galatic Love. A very heart warming story of a young kid who is confined to his room after a traumatic car accident. In order to go to school, his father builds him a robot which he controls and sees via his bedroom.

Yan
Seven Samurai FTW!

Chakushin Ari.
AlphaStarred
Yojimbo
Zatoichi series
Azumi
Palladium
kung fu hustle :wtf:

Hahaha that's cool!

Forgot about Versus, it was ok...nothing special.

I personally enjoy the old masters or Japanaese Cinema, including Mizoguchi, Ozu and like Yan and AlphaStarred already pointed out: Kurosawa.

I love pretty much everything Kurosawa has done and I highly recommend:
Ran
High & Low
Dersu Uzala
Red Beard
Stray Dog

Seven Saumarai was the inspiration for The Magnificent Seven, Yojimbo was the inspiration for A Fistful of Dollars and The Hidden Fortress was the inspiration for Star Wars.
