Hey, just wondering what is being done the the percs here:
www.vinyl7.com/solarstone.mp3
Some sort of filter I presume. Beneath the several regular hats there are these super-crunchy percs. What is that? I've heard it in many songs. |

i dont hear a filter effect on that.
i hear some neat use of manually panned hihats left and right to create a kind of rolling effect and a little bit of stereo imaging |

| I noticed that "effect" some time ago aswell... It's some snare, other percs, shakers/cabasas, you can use alot for this, in a fast pattern panned and with some delay.. |

| but that soundclip is recorded in super quality. *everything* sounds super crunchy. |

| I did some experiments and I'm thinking a shaker with a stepfilter can definitely make that sound. Not sure if that's what it is, though. |

| Alot of it has to do with The Prec Samples u use, The Eqing u use on the percs, The Compression is the big thing that will give your percs thats crunch sound. |

| You're talking about those midrange percs? On every even and? I can get stuff like that by bitcrushing a reversed snare drum. You can bitcrush just about any percussion sample to make it sound crunchy. The upside of using a bitcrusher is that you get a lot of distortion, but you get more dynamic variation. A compressors, limiters and distoriton all eschew dynamic variation. |

| I use the crusher in the Luxonix LFX-1310 for now, but I don't remember where I got it at all. I'm definitely waiting for the bundled Floops crusher, though. |
