We got there at about 12:15-12:30. Jason was laying down the best set that I've heard from him that I can recall. I heard from hitokiri that he'd been laying down hard tracks all night, which I don't really expect from him. Anyway, so Jason ends his set with this really great track (Jason, what track??), and Donald Glaude steps up to the decks and BOMBS the mix into his first track. This would prove to be his style for the entire evening. Jay just looked at me and we just both shook our heads. I tried to say that it was just the transition in styles in defense, but it got soooooo much worse. I saw him back at Avalon closing for Bad Boy Bill and do not remember it being like last night. He trainwrecked so badly so many times that all I could do was drink and smoke to relieve the pain. I mean, I could have thrown all the same tracks on just as good as he did, and I've never touched a set of decks in my life. The few TAs that were there (Shamez214, hitokiri, SidMl, phuzzyfish, partyhopper that I recall).
I was soooo ing pissed. Christina said it made her want to cry all night hearing so many tracks that we like butchered that badly. I'd like to say it was because he was drunk off his ass, etc, but I don't even know if that's an excuse, as he was out on the empty dancefloor when Smokin Jo came on and he didn't seem ed up at all. She was playing a lot darker with some tribal, but she was no mixing genius either.
The only thing that I can think of to explain this performance was that he was using some CDs, which I don't recall from his Avalon show where I remember him using all vinyl. I'm not really sure, though, as I couldn't see what he was doing because of the elevated stage. Christina actually thought he felt ashamed at the end, because he's used to being really amped and energetic (and he was to start), but at the end, he just seemed somber, like he just wet his bed at the age of 12
Here's the tracks that I remember. He played a lot more that I knew, but I got wasted and forgot some of them to numb the pain:
Buy Now - For Sale
Soft Cell - Tainted Love (? Remix) (2nd or 3rd track)
Gotta Move On vs. Danzel - Put Your Hands Up in the Air
Morillo,Romero & Nunez- 'Dancin' (Angello & Ingrosso's Metallica Is Dancin Booty) - One of my personal favorites, right now
Either Laid Back - White Horse (I used to hear this when roller skating in Jr. High) or Wonderland Avenue - White Horse (sounded older, though)
Mad8 - Work This
In sum, last night, Crobar was really empty, and the headliner's set completely warranted an empty floor. It quickly cleared out the few people that showed up in the first place. On the plus side, the bartender we've been frequenting gave me so many free drinks. Christina and I only spent $100 drinking $13 Stoli and Red Bulls and we got seriously -faced. |

| Damn that SUCKS!!! Why didn't you guys come next door for Markus??? It must have been bad if the bartender was hooking you up with more than one drink....they have told me before they are only allowed to give away one drink per night.:wtf: |

Neither of us like Markus much at all. Saw him at Nu-NRG in the spring and he bored the out of me and I skip his GDJB show every week even though I tune in for Armin right after. G&D I assume opened, and I think they're OK and Christina's not a big fan. Both of their tracklists from the review thread look pretty typical for them. I guess last night just wasn't our night for NYC parties. Too bad one of the four parties going on next weekend that we want to attend wasn't a week earlier.
I was seriously disappointed because I'd seen him before and remember having fun even though I was there by myself. I think he used all vinyl that night, but last night was some CDs (trying to give him the same excuse for last night that Tiesto uses now) |

I was thinking of going over to Spirit but just decided to go home once I left Crobar. Should have come over.
Great seeing hitokiri, phuzzyphish, groundhog boy, barosoap, partyhopper. |

Mismoplastico was played.
Man... every track was great. But every mix... not so great. The worst mixing I've ever heard in my life. As Ryan said, I think any of us could've played just as well as he did.
Jason, on the other hand... ing DOPE. |

Damn, that sucks! I'm really sorry to hear it :(
I really wonder what happened? Every time I've seen Donald spin (about 4-5 times now) he's been on point. It sounds like he just had a really bad night. Maybe his girlfriend broke up with him over the phone beforehand, or perhaps he has a loved one that was just diagnosed with cancer or something and he couldn't stop thinking about it. Who knows? After all, he is human just like the rest of us and will undoubtedly have both good and bad days.
Sorry, guys.

Well... I dunno about that. Because, he continually kept screaming "MAKE SOME ING NOISE!!!" during breakdowns. He pretty into it at the begining. But whatever, I actually dig enjoy myself. Dancing at Crobar when there are only about 100 people on the floor is so fun. |

That really doesn't mean anything. It's his job to at least try and get the crowd going. Whether or not he is successful at it is different story.
That still doesn't indicate what his current emotional state could have been. Haven't you ever given anyone a fake smile in hopes of masking any pain that you may have held inside? I know that I have. |

I only stayed for a little of Donald Glaude and I was there from the time they opened the main room for Jason's set.
Jason appropriately started somewhat chill and then just started to bring it. The place was actually pretty crowded for his set. Maybe it was Crobar packed, but there was a good showing there especially with another big party around the corner.
A lot of people were dancing when Jason was on and he really had the crowd going.
When Glaude came on I wanted to get into his but just couldnt. The danceflorr actually emptied out a bit. Even people who were dancing seemed a bit confused like they didnt know how to react to him.
After about 30 minutes of Glaude I got the hell out of there. I wanted to stay but he gave me no incentive to. His transitions sucked and there was absolutely no flow from one track to the next. Maybe he can get away with this stuff in Vegas.
Jason threw down a great set though. One of the best sets I have heard recently. The more the crowd was getting into it, the more he was bringing it. Just like a DJ should do.
I have quite a few pics from the night that I will post tonight. |
