Ever get bored?
View this Thread in Original format

Hey guys... I've been producing for the past 3 years and I always have the same problem with my tracks. Once I get past the writers block and finally get some ideas flowin', my whole life becomes so preoccupied with working on the new tune. But once I get about 80% done the track, I can never put the final touches on it to complete it. It'll then sit there for weeks till I get back to it. What I've found sometimes helps is to start writing a new track and get involved in that one till I get bored of it. Then I go back to the original and try to finish that off.

Do any of you guys have similar problems? And if so, what do you guys do to help from getting bored with a track.

PEACE :)

Yeah, sometimes have that problem 2 mate..
Just think that if your track is finished.. it would be really great 2 get some good reactions on it.. and it gives a satisfied feeling..
hope it works

i always take a long time to work on a song. Ususally I will get bored of doing it, but then if I just wait for a while and come back to it i feel almost refreshed to hear my work in progress again.

Yeah man I have that too...

A Whole lot of people who make music have that, it's like this, about 30% of a track is in the fun creative process, making a melody, plus your groove is new to your ears. The other 70% tho is finishing up your track and arranging it, structuring. You're familiar with the beats and get bored with it, plus this part is much less fun.

But get to it, and don't rush it! Better one good, thoroughly finished song then 10 useful loops. Showing people your loops just isn't as classy as showing them yer song.

I have exactly the same problem. I also have a big problem starting a tune. I admit it, I hate programming drums. When I come up with something, I use a lot of time programming drums, and fitting it with the bassline and so on. When I finally get to the part where the melody kicks in, where the drum work is "finished", and I only have to copy and paste, I'm so sick and tired of it that I leave it alone for a couple of weeks. This is what has happened lately. I guess it's smart to start on a new project in that period, but I like to finish one before I start on the next one. Lol, my brother has a room next to me, and at the time I finish a tune he hates it more than anything because of me listening to it all the time arranging and taking care of the small details. But I guess that rushing out thing would only be for the worse..

Peace

well i dont have a lot of experience but with my first song that im working on now i find that i have to leave it for a couple/few days then get back to it when i have more ideas/inspiration.

that happens to me ALL THE TIME!!!
I map out some riffs and melodies and stuff, to get a few bars going... then I got too lazy to actually make it into a song!!!
It just seems so tedious... lol
what I do to get over it is work on it for a little while every day... your good ideas will stick and eventually, you'll like it enough to want to finish it :D

i think you get bored of making music because like....u are not inspired enough by your own song....

like when i make a song i listen to it and i like it so i listen again and then i realize that something is missing....so to fullfil my enjoyment i add to it, and then again theres something missing and again i add and add....

well anyway, i feel that way

It is natural to get bored of it, cause you're listening to it so much when u are composing it. So, take a bit of time away from it. This is good to do, because when u come back a few days later and give it a listen, u can hear things differently.. like when u made a certain melody u thought it was amazing, but u come back later and it doesnt sound as good as u thought before. This is essential, because u must have an objective view when making music, and one thing in particular.. If u make something that you personally don't think sounds amazing, redo it. Sometimes you may not feel like it, because u put alot of time into it already, but it's better if you think it sounds amazing. Also, a good thing to do is, while ur composing, play some new releases.. just to see if ur track is up to par. sometimes this can be discouraging, but it really helps, cause just remember when other people listen to ur track, they'll be comparing it to top 20 tracks aswell.
