For some reason there are multiple Christian TV stations, while there are no atheist stations. For some reason TV talk show hosts only interview bible-thumpers and conservatives, and they don't interview atheists (you'd think none exist). lol what the hell is an atheist station? they cover tons of church and religious events in any media since it's a popular topic even for those who don't believe in religion. ie. the choir boy scandal, the death of the Pope who was a great peace man, etc. while atheist events at large are a bunch of idiots who just rant all day. i.e. the events in union square and washington square park here in NYC. they very often interview atheists though it's not like the guy is like " I DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD, BURN ORGANIZED RELIGION DOWN".
atheists are around the problem with them is that alot of times they are as dumb as this guy who think that their little stunt will get them any real recognition. |

Actually the very nature of atheistism does not exactly stress importance in promoting 'the message', because well there is no message. They tend to be people of a higher than average intelligence and it would be a waste of their time to try and 'deconvert' the converted. What good would it do? Anyway once you believe in something there isn't much anyone can do or say to change your mind.
The only time there is really a cause for an atheist to "do something" is when the thumpers try to force their beliefs onto others like removing evolution from the schools and/or adding intelligent design. Flying Spaghetti Monster notwithstanding... |

I agree the idea is humorous and I'm all for putting Bible thumpers in their place but there is no reason for this. It will only give them a reason to get upset, start a pointless debate that will be aired on every cable news channel and leave no one any better off than they were when it started.

Cannot agree more. Although I think the concept behind what they did is a good one, I think they went about it in the entirly wrong way. Perhaps if the Bibles were turned in for well known texts criticizing the contradicitions of the Bible/Koran/etc... or the circular logic of religion, but being turned in for porn could lead to the conception that athiests are immoral smut addicts.

sex/porn IS the perfect choice coz in the states we all know how fvcking obsessed with sexuality you all are. i also love the fact that theyre getting bible-owning (tho not necessarily bible-reading) people to give up their faith book of choice in favour of and arse. i think thats hilarious.
the fact that religious groups might get upset at something as benign as this is exactly the reason to do it, and highlight their pathetic-ness. |

its not hard to learn about the nation that drowns most of the world in its popular culture smartarse. its also not hard to read the odd story on some of the antiquated sexual laws some states in the US havent altered. as of 2000 there were still states that outlaw oral sex.

we know a load more about the US than most US citizens know about any other country. youre currently the dominant force in the world. we (aus) get the news with jim lehrer ffs. could you point me to an australian current affairs show i could tune into on CBS?
anyway, my central thesis remains. its a fun joke and those that take it all too seriously are exactly the reason the joke should be played in the first place. |

you said we all know, which makes you a smartASS*. furthermore, i'm sure those laws are really being taken seriously. just like germany who give out fines for jay walking, the US could give two s less. congrats that you know more about the rest of the world, but honestly, not too many people here care about the rest of the world since for certain periods in our history we chose to isolate ourselves. how nicely did that work out. CBS is an american station, yet our cable providers offer other world knews like BBC and EuroNews. but i'm sure you knew that ;) |

whether the laws are enforced or not is beside the point. the fact that such ridiculous laws are still part of the statute(s) is indicative of the cultural obsession with sex imo.
how bout the recent scandal over grand theft auto? nobody gave two s that the game revolved around violence and crime. though as soon as someone can DL a mod to unlock sex in the game, everyone's crying out in horror. ffs!
