does anyone know if pioneer is planning on updating/ releasing a new model to replace the cdj1000?
SgtFoo
Strong rumours have it, that Pioneer is releasing a CDJ-2000 model that will emulate vinyl even more to reality than the preceding CDJ-1000... Supposedly along with readability of dvd-cds with mp3s or wavs on them, mp3 cds, i-pod plugin abilities, and other such wished add-ons to the unit.

note:... keep in mind it's all under rumour.

any idea when this thing would be released? i'd hate to buy a new pair of 1000s and have these come out right after...

This thing will probably be $2,000 each if it will do all that, as the CDJ 1000 was $1,000 each hence "CDJ 1000" haha. Don't know how many DJs will really want to upgrade if and when it's released, which probably wont be till later in the decade, like 2008 or 2009 perhaps.

It is all rumors, hence no date.

Yeah all were doing is speculating. I'm just guessing by the end of the decade, but by the time there will probably be some really advanced sound format other than MP3, so I don't think MP3 disc compatibility is a neccessary upgrade. How many people really mix with MP3 discs anyways?. I think if you really want to mix with MP3s your better off just using a laptop and Traktor or Ableton perhaps to mix than 40+ tracks on an MP3 disc. And there might something with better quality sound than MP3 in the future, closer to a WAV format but takes up less space on hard drives. There's MP4s out now, but I don't think they sound that different from MP3, so you never know.

And the DVD thing, who knows in five years if DVDs will still be around? There might be something EVEN better on the horizon at the rate technology is going...so if this is released soon, it will have features that might be outdated in 5 to 10 years, forcing them to make another upgrade, so I think they should just focus on the audio and design aspect and forget the DVD and MP3 stuff. And who knows, in 5 to 10 years CDJs, Turntables etc might not be the "thing" to mix with, it might go completely digital. I know that might take some things away from mixing visually but it does seem to be getting better and more popular. Again this is all speculation so who knows??

Everybodies upgrading to DVJ X-1's because they have pretty blue lights on the front and shiny stuff.

It pisses me off to see a club that has just switched to DVJ's from CDJ1000's. There is no point to spend $3500 on something you ALREADY HAVE. There is no point for DVJ's. NOBODY will have 24/96 audio. And if you do, you are one of the worlds top DJ's that CAN get the ORIGINAL source DVD from the producer. Most low to mid range DJ's will NEVER have that stuff, and if they do, they won't have a full set! Pioneer got retarded on this one and either realsed it for no reason at all, or just for money.

Far overpriced as well.

Same with the DJM 1000. It's a DJM 600 with no efx, some midi controls, an extra channel, prettier lights, and the DJM 909/707 EQ knobs.

No one mentioned blue ray discs, if the Playstation 3 is supposably supporting them then they might be used in the near future for media.
Pioneer was always a great company untill they realised it. They started thinking in terms of how can we dress this up and overprice it. No doubt they have good prodcuts but they are starting to lean towards the wrong set of standards.

I-Pod connectors??? If this "proffesional" piece of dj equipment gets released with ipod connectors someone on the pioneer design bored is gonna have to die... After using some of numarks products they gained my respect "although my respect isnt worth much":toothless but when i found out about the Ipod dj mixer i instantly thaught much less of numark.

I don't even know where to begin with this one, there's so much misinformation. I quess I'll start with: DVJs don't play DVD-audio, or SACDs. The point is, they play DVDs. You know, video? And if you don't understand how dissimilar the DJM-600 and the DJM-1000 are, you need to do some research.
