XL is alll over the place. I love it. He really does have crowd reading talent. The thing about spinning at stereo-bar in the morning is that it's so easy to lose the crowd. You have to be ing consistent and keep laying them down hard orelse you will be spining for an empty basement. |
it was wild! he kept dropping these crazy tracks, and i was like :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: ...i've never been to stereo, but stereo-bar has a sick sound system. |

I really didn't like it for the most part, and I have been really into Satoshi for the past little while.
His build ups lead to nothing, and he lost the crowd mid way through his set and just started playing prog, then electro, then tech, then this trancy . Except there was seemingly no pattern to it, I really did not enjoy it AT ALL, even when he was playing these bangin tracks from his ES mixes.. The fact that he played Behind the Wheel off of Sasha's Fundacion, but totally facked it up was a complete attestment to the night as a whole, he had some good tracks here and there but they came at wrong places. |
+1, my thoughts exactly
I was surprized by that performance from Satoshi, he would drop some sick choons followed by some really extended buid ups that just slowed the crowd down way too much, ...., maybe my expectations were just too high or Satoshi just wasn't all there that night....
Oh and by the way, it was the lexicon ave remix of behind the wheel, the the playgroup version. That actually the highlight for me!

Ohhhh ok, well ya it was good but meh... Didn't make up for his sketchy set IMO.
And Jung has some serious talent but he was kinda all over the place also, but some seriously bangin tunes flew outta him. :D:D |

| Satoshi has the reputation of being either "SUPER CRAP" or "SUPER KICK ASS" Either way, his music seems to reflection his state of mind or mood. |

I know I'm posting kinda late, but the partying didn't stop @ Satoshi for me this weekend... So please excuse the delayed review.
So I got to Stereo @ around 3:30am, saw Jung...awesome crowd connection, dropped some HUGE slamming tracks (some of which were commercial but wtv...still good ones) & then...
SATOSHI TOMIIE (IMO) = I was totally psyched to see this legendary Stereo mofo and even though it's true that the genres he played didn't synchronize or flow evenly, he proved he could destroy it with a variety of styles and imo, that's something to complement...not bash.
I really found his darkest stuff (and I mean that dirty, underground afterhours music sound) to be highly Digweed inspired. At one point, I thought I was hearing identical basslines off of GU: Los Angeles...which was A-OK with me. Crowd was banging then died then banged some more. Such a pleasure to hear music like that at the level it was at on Friday.
I didn't see any TAs there...*ahem*CHOKERS*ahem* :tongue2 aside from lopitrance. Dude, you seemed to be TOTALLY enjoying it when we met lol...anyways, it was cool to meet you!
I left around 9am and he was still kicking it...the place was packed from start to when I left (heard he closed at 11am...true?)
Overall, very very very good night @ Stereo, very very very happy I didn't miss this (don't wanna rub it in guys :(... lol sorry)!!!
Til the next party,
Erika ;) |

So yeah I had a craaazy weekend and I dont even know how I pulled it off because I had a final on monday, two on tuesday and the last one today...that's the reason for this delayed review...
Satoshi....ing....RIPPED it...
ninjahola, sorry bro, but you told me he was good and that he never dissapoints and you were SO right...the man kept coming up with amazing KILLER tracks like one after the other, non stop....
this is stereohead now...omg the song at 4:30 in the SAT set holy ttttt best song of the night imo!!!
Ok....so anyways...Got there with Stereohead around 3:30, Jung played Madonna's Hung Up and he ed up a couple of times, but I didn't mind so much. At around 4:00 the fire alarm went off, we were all tripping with it at first because it seemed to go with the beat :tongue2 ... but then it became pretty annoying, not only that but firemen were walking around with flashlights on the dancefloor and ..
BUT....it was all worth it becuase when Satoshi came on around 5 and he started spinning his crazy everything was forgotten...best part came when the girl dressed as a Geisha started playing with batons that were INFLAMED!!! The alarm and the firemen all made sense now and the little bad trip I had with them was all worth it...it was a show, sick dark proggy beats from Satoshi in Stereo with Japanese dancers playing with fire...WOW!
My favorite thing about his set was that I hardly recongnized any of the songs...always nice to go in and be totally suprised and amazed by hours of new music you've never heard before...near the end he played the piano song Erika mentioned above and the Beatles song from one of the sets ninjahola posted...
My favorite remixes he played during the night:
Royksopp - What Else Is There, (with sick Bjork vocals :eyespop: )
Digitalism - Zdarlight (I have this track on one of Steve Angelo's mix cds, and the original is THE just by itself but this remix was something else... :eyes: )
Gorillaz - Dare (I'm not too crazy about this track as the original but this remix was GREAT)
Overall, amazing night, so happy to have seen Satoshi, he looks like a master behind the decks, I'm gonna look out for his new double mix cd coming out next year FOR SURE :)
Didnt meet any TAs except Lopitrance...cool guy!
Stereohead went on to Aria the next night...don't know how she did it but kudos to her :D
