last week, my friend who got his ipod about 8 months ago, kept charging it at work and i was liek what are you doing? he's like the battery doesn't work for over 5 hours or so. so he charged it and let the music keep playing (note: without touching any buttons that drain more energy) and about 6 hours later when we were closing it was dead as ing dead.

not to mention that there were other cases all over the web, including, in reviews and even threads here in the CORe about it, brohan.

Weird. It must be a bad patch or something. The battery time isn't too good, but it doesn't get worse either, in a long time.

Okay, more downsides:

7.) comes with a crippled mp3-codec. Usually mp3-codecs can decode mp2-files as good as mp3. But this one can't. You can't listen to digital radio DAB- or satellite- rips (these are broadcasted in mp2-format), u need to convert them to mp3. You need to "nuke" the files in order to play them.

8.) Does not support some popular formats (such as ogg). I encoded almost all my CD collection in OGG. So no way there.

I am using a HD-800 based mp3-player (20GB hard disk). Except a very fast battery-draining effect (the hard disk draws a lot of current) it is almost perfect for my needs. And the sound quality is just perfect!

Yes. This is a big downside also.

If it breaks, you must take it to a licensed mac/ipod repair bay to have it fixed or you have voided your warranty. Of course, you pay an extra 60% by going to these places.

i find the battery life to be fine. i listen to it all day at work and it seems to last a couple days at least...the battery has never died on me.

as long as you charge it every few nights its fine. even for just 30 mins.

*i have a mini

Leah Dizon FTW!

I still need to buy a mp3 player, so i have nothing to contribute.

except for this:

i got a shuffle for free, would never spend money on an ipod espically after using the shuffle.

1) battery life sucks
2) the shuffle function is terrible, plays too many songs that r right after each other in the playlist to often. if that makes sense

I don't recommend getting one, the sound quality sucks, the thing scratches to easy, battery life sucks, etc.
Last month mine broke, the thing thought the hold button was always on, so I could never use it. I called iPod, paid $30 for them to ship me a new one and return the old one. This one seems to be good so far, I'm not expecting it to last more than a year though...

Finally people are beginning to see how badly overrated the iPod is.

iAudio mp3 players have EXCELLENT sound quality. I have an iAudio 5 and its sound is as good, if not better than my old Sony MZ-N910 minidisc recorder (and Sony MD sound quality is about as good as it gets).

The 5 band Equalizer an ALL of iAudios products is incredible. The sound is crip with little to NO sound distortian. BBE and Bass enhancement features on all of the iAudio products, also work wonders.

Battery life on the X5L (not X5V) is about 35-36 hours claimed by iAudio, though it last more around 30. Still impressive. Quite.

Creatives New Zen Vision:M is also turning heads as it has the iPod video BEAT AND PWNED in almost every single comparison except for size, which also brings an issue of the iPods durability and "scratch free" surface. To be frank: its thin and built like crap. A few extra mm of thickness means u get a solid player. Here it is:

Features:
-30gb
-Divx/xvid playback and WMV, and mpeg
-4 hours, not 2 of, of video playback
-MP3, WMA, WAV playback
-JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF with zoom and pan (not on ipod)
-FM Radio
-Mic
-DVD quality video-out supporting up to 720x480 resolution
-Much sharper screen than ipods using a 262k color screen as opposed to ipods crappy 62k
-5 band EQ (ipod has nothing except for e presets).
-power adapter INCLUDED (not with ipod)
-etc etc etc etc etc

For my liking, its too big and i personally dont care for video, hence why i use a very small flash based mp3 player. But if i were to get any HD based DAP, itd be either the Creative or the Sony NW-A1000.
