carfax problem

in the car i wanna get, in the carfax report it says that there is lien record(s) found. what does that mean?
also there is a.....
emission/safety inpection record(s) found.
everything else looks ok.
is there something i need to worry about?

| Lien = Debt on a Car. A properly registered lien allows the lien holder to take the vehicle if the amount of the lien is not paid. The holder will be entitled to repossess the vehicle from the person who owes the money or from anyone else who buys the vehicle after the lien is registered.:whip: |

nothing to worry about.
it basically says that the car was financed (or still is). just make sure that the title that the owner gives you will not have any liens listed in there (if there are any current liens, the owner normally won't even have the original title - only the certified black-and-white copy).
if there are still liens listed on the title, it means that there is still balance on his car loan for this car. if he doesn't have the money to pay off the rest of balance (he was hoping to sell it to pay it off, for example), you two can go to a notary or to an attorney to certify that you would provide this money to him, and he will not run away with the check, but rather pay off the debt and transfer the title to you. |

in some states (like california or texas), required annual or bi-annual inspection is posted into car history. those records tell you that the inspection was passed on those dates. |

99% of cars will have lien records in carfax, and many - emission/safety records.
in fact, if a 5- or 6-year old car has just 1 or 2 records in vin history, it generally means trouble. |
