www.moogaudio.ca is their site. Excellent store, and with the website, you can see prices online.
As for equipment, how much do you want to spend? What kind of music do you want to spin? Do you prefer CD's or vinyl?
For CD players, my picks are:
Pioneer CDJ-200/CDJ-800/CDJ-1000
Denon DNS-3500 is a good one too
Mixers (these are all higher quality, more $$$, but will last you forever):
Allen & Heath XONE:32
ECLER NUO2/NUO3
Vestax PCV-275
Headphones:
Sennheiser HD-280
Ultrasone DJ1/DJ1 PRO
Sony MDR-600/700
Denon HP-1000
The Technics and Pioneer ones are good too... |

Here's my personal advice... A lot of the my pleasures of being a DJ comes from going to the store, choosing, seeing, touching the vinyl. Buying it, and come back home excited to take it out of the cover.
It has a look, a colour, a feel to it. When I take out or scrolling trough the records while i'm playing, I have a bunch of emotions just at looking at the cover, I KNOW how this track feels like.
Maybe if you go 100% CDJ, you will not have an automatic satisfaction that a beginner is looking for. Being all digital is colder, unless you have crazy fun with it like Zabiela. I could go 100% cds today, but never would have the fun I have buying and playing records. |
Yea, but vynils are really expensive, and for beginners a lot of money will be wasted just for finding a style/vynils that they wanna eventually start playing after some time. |

Of course it's more expensive, I fully agree.
But it can be the difference between really enjoying mixing and hating it for a beginner.
I had at first 2 turntables and 1 dual Denon cd player. It was ok (and I still feel that the + and - button was more accurate than this stupid wheel that I never got the feel of ha ha) but would not have continued Djing if I was stuck only with Cds.
That was the point. |

Well, coming from you, this means a lot to me...so thank you :)
I think I'll buy my friend's turntables and his mixer...it's a Newmark. I 'll start from there and buy some vinyls...totally worth the $$$ if I'll appreciate it more...Thanks again, your post totally made my decision to start out with vinyls. |

As for equipment, I'm not sure how much I wanna spend...What kind of music I wanna spin? Hmmm...I love all kinds of house from Chicago to Dark Proggy ...I adore the idea of creating Progressive Chicago House, that's probably the name for the sound I'd love to spin the most...Darkness with funkiness...totally funked up! I prefer CDs for the fact that they're cheaper than vinyls but I know I'd appreciate vinyls more for the sheer pleasure.
Thank you 4 ur suggestions :) much appreciated... |

Well it's really just MY personal taste. Many will say I'm out of date and the futur is on final scratch or making loops with Ableton and remixing live....
It's all good if you are having fun. With Turntables and my Peavey Grabber (Cycloop) i'm having a lot of fun, and have an extra creative bonus with the looping.
Personnaly, i'm a physical DJ, I live it pretty intensively on a physical level. Having the records behind me and scrolling trough them, take out and put back the record, is part of the energy I must let go while i'm playing.
Putting them in my bag and sort them out before I go play is also part of my mental warm up....
I will only switch if I must too. Either because turntables will be gone, or if new tools are SO creative that it allows me to create on an higher level. CDJs, for the moment, don't compensate. And playing with midi knobs don't cut for me, don't feel it.
At one point, it's all about what's in your guts, and what's the best way to express it. |
