Credit card only companies

I hate it when you find something worth spending your money on then you find out that the company only accepts credit cards, it really pisses me off! I don't own a credit card nor do I want to so why are so many companies so biased against debit (i.e Visa-Electron) Don't they realise that they are loosing business?

I recently signed up for Virgin Broadband having given my debit card details over the phone which I was told they do accept and then when it came to paying my monthly fees it failed, and then again the next month. I decided to set up a new direct debit even though I was sure the details I had given were correct and then found out they only accepct, guess what... credit cards only!

p.s If anyone knows of good broadband companies that do accept debit cards it'd be much appreciated

why dont u get one? if ur sensible about money then just use it for the practicality benefit - but i dont know anywhere that'll only accept mastercard/visa that wont take maestro ?

just get a no fee credit card and pay the bill on time each month and it won't cost you a thing. Credit cards only cost you if you pay the min balance and therefore start acruing interest.

I probably will get one soon. It just winds me up when companies offer no alternative for no apparent reason.

I got broadband on a debit card (visa debit like is that differnet?) but I got 2 meg for £16 a month which pretty good from euro1net so they take it. Dunno what virgin is like pricewise but I recon euro1net is pretty cheap and good too. I downloaded a 900meg file in a bit over 1hour! :D

i was on virgin before they started upping speeds but they changed it all so that you had download limits. i left anyway coz i can get 2mb for 20 quid a month where i live, i'm not near any of their new ADSL2 exchanges though which is a ter.

Yeah, I've noticed that particular debit cards are being turned against all of a sudden.

I've used a Solo card for years; always found it to be better than the Visa Electron which wasn't accepted anywhere.
But recently I found I couldn't use Solo to buy a train ticket home, and had to put it on my Mastercard. Then I couldn't even buy a cinema ticket with Solo and had to use my Mastercard... and then in the cinema upstairs I tried to buy a pint with my Solo and couldn't do that either! Once again it goes on my Mastercard.

I've never had any problems with it before, but in the last week or so I've been forced into using my credit card more and more.

By the way, there really isn't anything wrong with using credit cards.

I've found that if you use your credit card a lot, you just end up getting rewarded by the bank. You've just gotta be disciplined and organised and good at paying off the bills.
