Ok, "England have had a continuous lack of success since winning a World Cup 40 years ago", if it makes you feel better :)
Surely you want to win every competition you're in though? Who goes into tournaments thinking "careful lads, don't score too many, try lose if possible" ?

UEFA -> the european football association of national federations (or something like that)
UEFA Champions League -> the most important football club tournament in Europe (the world?), organized every year by UEFA
UEFA Cup -> another yearly tournament, for the clubs that couldn't get into the Champions League or get knocked out of it in the group stage

UEFA = Union of European Football Associations that covers (almost) every team in Europe.
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE = The UEFA Champions League is UEFA's most prestigious European club competition. It was originally created as the European Champion Clubs' Cup for the 1955/56 season, before its format and name were changed in 1992. (don't forget the Copa Libertadores, the Asian and African CL). The European one is idd the most famous and promising one!
UEFA CUP = The UEFA Cup was introduced for the 1971/72 season and comprises clubs that have qualified for the competition from a variety of different routes. PARTICIPANTS >> It is open to teams finishing in leading positions behind the champions in their domestic top divisions, the winners of the national Cup competition, the winners of the League Cup competition in certain countries, the three winners of the final matches in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, and three clubs from UEFA’s Fair Play League. |
