Alright. I have 500-600 bucks. I don't want used monitors- so what can I get that's quality for around that much? I know that there's been lots of threads about monitors, but I'm talking about a very specific price range here.

I don't have more than 600 to spend, unfortunately, or I'd grab those! I just spent 500 on a synth, so after this monitor purchase I'm totally done.

I am so used to the fact that everything is that cheaper in USA that I completely forgot to check to see if it's pair or single speaker.

Anyway, for that kind of money 8" KRK Rokits are supposedly the best buy. A friend just got a pair and I must say I was very impressed.

Check out the Tapco S5 and S8's. They are made by mackie and deliver a very true sound for their price tag. Just bought a pair and am pretty impressed by their flatness. I A/B'ed them against Alesis M1, Tannoys 5a and Yammi MSP5's and they came out on top. Didnt seem to excite the sound as much as the others and I could hear much further into the mix.

Have heard some decent things about the KRKs too but didnt get a chance to listen to any. Would be worth a listen too I'd say.

I'll be picking up a pair of KRK 6s in the next week... I've found they're the best audio representation for my studio space. IMO, the m-audio didn't seem to have the same volume output while staying accurate overall.

note: If you have or will be using a sub with your system, don't bother going with the 8" drivers... go with either 5" or 6". If you don't plan on it, then the 8" are the best bet.

just don't get the m-audio bx-anything.... all i gotta say is those suck.

I just got a couple hundred more bucks and at a friend's suggestion I'm getting the Mackie HR624s. I couldn't resist. Woot.

So I finally picked up my KRK RP6s.... and all I can say is...

OMG... these are the cleanest, fullest speakers I've ever owned. The full frequency response is incredible... best purchase I've made in 2005...

Highly recomended...
