Soundcard/Mixer question

| So I have an external D/A converter soundcard with 2 quarter inputs (left and right). In Cubase, I want to record two sources live- a synthesizer and a guitar- simultaneously. I could just get a mixer, but the problem comes when I want to apply Guitar Rig's distortion only to the guitar's channel but not to the synthesizer. Are there mixing boards that act as sound cards? Or, can I just not do this live? I'm mostly just curious, since this isn't a necessity or anything, but how would you guys do it? |

youll need a soundcard that has two stereo audio inputs. or you could get a mixer with a build in audio interface, as you said.
if you dont mind recording in mono you can plug your synths left output to your soundcards left input and your guitar to the right input.
if you just wanna hear the synth playing while you play the guitar you can do overdubs. |

You can record in mono. Stick the left output of the synth to the left output of the line in on your soundcard and the guitar to the right. Then set up 2 mono audio channels in your host sequencer/recoding program, set one channel to "Left In" and the other one to the "Right In".
No way to record two stereo signals with one stereo line in, though... I guess that's obvious... 2 > 1 :D |
