Mobile sound card

Hi everyone!

My first post on TA, be gentle.
yet another sound card thread I am afraid

I'm looking in to buying a mobile sound card. Nothing fancy, low latency and stereo headphone output is the priority here. I've pretty much decided on the FireWire Audiophile from m-audio. Their PCI Audiophile cards seems to have a pretty good reputation.

What about the firewire version, any known issues? :whip:
How about the drivers (PC user)? Maybe got any other sound card to suggest?

any comments appreciated

Check http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/CardBus/

I have an Indigo DJ which has two stereo outs. They also have the Indigo IO version which has one stereo output, plus a stereo input.

I leave my card plugged into the laptop all the time, even when travelling. It has low latency, ASIO driver, good sound, and the convenience of no extra cables or power requirements.

i wouldnt recomend m-audio firewire there are better soundcards out there. (im the ashole that recently bought one :P). only thing i can say is that i could get lower latency (5) without pops etc with my soundblaster.

the indigo card looks promising, its got everything I have been looking for!

Great comments guys,
Cheers!

Does anyone else have this problem with M Audio sound cards? I wanted to get a USB one! I have a limited budget and I heard that the USB one is half the cost of the firewire one.

my 410 works fine. i use it for dj'ing with ableton live and i haven't had any problems so far (don't really use it at all for recording/producing). i've heard though, that roughly half of the stock is defective because they're so mass produced so it's highly likely that you buy one and it doesn't work properly.

when recording with a 128 sample buffer, i get 3ms latency i/o... and when dj'ing at 256 samples, i get no clicks or pops in audio.

however for something of better quality, and same price... go with the presonus firebox.

i personally think m audio cards are great, never heard anyone having problems with them
i would go for the mobile one

I have a firewire audiophile, and it works great for me.

Only cries I have with it is how the controls on the front don't work sometimes when i have FL open.

the usb is slower.. its limited in the data transfer area so its said that its latencies arent that good.

and im not saying the audiphile firewire isnt a good card, its just that i expected super low latency with lots of plugs. and the fact that you have to close fl, to lower latency for recording is a pain in the ass.

ill have to save the project, close fl lower the latency open fl with a new project record, close fl raise latency> open fl and the project and import the audiofile... as i said pain in the ass. with the soundblasters better latency and the fact that you can change latency on the fly, it would be alot easier for example...

anyway if you care about real time recording save money and get something better imo. if not its ok.
