How to improve the sound of this lead.

Hopefully some of you guys will know the answer to this one.

I'm happy with the sound when the cutoff is being used a lot, but when it is fully open the sound is overly bright and a bit harsh. Can anyone suggest what I could do?

The melody will be familiar I'm sure, I did that just for illustrative purposes :)

Sounds pretty good but I'd say add some (or more) reverb. Nice lead.

Use EQ to get rid of the harshness. Or - who says the filter has to be fully open? Just don't open it to the point of harshness.

Is the cutoff fully open at any time in the sample? Because I do not hear anything that sounds too harsh or bright.

Actually it's never more than halfway open and thanks for reminding me to think outside the box. No, I don't need to open the cutoff so far. I''ll add some more reverb and see what happens. Cheers

Any further advice welcome.

Sounds good to me. :)

Maybe add another layer, different octave, or slightly detuned, etc

Needs some reverb to warm the sound up, I'd try some delay and finally open the decay, sustain a little more! The sound sounds to jittery!
